I’ve been hacked over in the other place, which in one way is rather a blessing. The process of trying to sort it out is, however, exasperating. This tweet (which a friend screenshot and sent) did make me laugh though, so that’s something!

I’ll admit it: I am a pearlclutcher who really dislikes it when people use this dehumanising phrase to talk about people, and who cannot understand why people don’t immediately grasp why it is distasteful.

In all the Eastenders 40 noise, nobody has mentioned the final series of Are You Being Served started on the 18th of Feb 1985 meaning Wendy Richard was on screen as Miss Brahms the night before she first appeared as Pauline Fowler.

A number of prominent UK Conservatives' statements about Donald Trump resemble one of those news stories that begins with a magazine feature about a new age mystic who believes he can talk to bears and ends with a newspaper article about a new age mystic being mauled to death by bears.

It means “I dislike immigration from certain countries because they don’t agree with British liberalism, an ideology and mode of living that I am explicitly hostile towards”.

Funny thing about The Jam - do the albums you get one bit of the story, but miss out on the singles and you lose an awful lot of their best stuff. "Snap!" is one of the all time great best ofs - a thrilling pop single round every corner. A genuine three piece, bouncing, playing off each other.

I’m asking to be indulged here I guess but reading the acres of stuff coming out of the US right now, my main feeling is deep sadness, rather than anger. I recall the hatred for the USA that became widespread currency during the W years but this is bigger and with greater cause - but
