I was offered an 1- year extension at my current position in Egypt this week, saving me from DC's kerfuffle for another year. To celebrate I splurged on lip filler, more Arabic lessons and Werther's Salted Caramel Popcorn. Of the three, I am definitely enjoying the popcorn the most.

It’s like @johnrogers.bsky.social says: if you constantly label everything you don’t like socialism, and you suck, eventually the youth will just embrace socialism.

I took a negotiation class at FSI the week Trump withdrew us from JPOCA. They had a video for the last session of the course that covered how it was negotiated as an example of what diplomacy could do, which we all watched silently, knowing that it had just been destroyed.

Uh, isn't that the H2A program? Pretty sure that's the H2A program.

BREAKING: Federal judge blocks Rubio's anti-trans, anti-nonbinary passport policy for all. Judge Julia Kobick granted a classwide preliminary injunction that applies to all trans and nonbinary people on Tuesday. New, at Law Dork: www.lawdork.com/p/breaking-f...

A top staffer to Sen. Tina Smith emailed Sen. Mike Lee’s top staffers on Monday about “how much additional pain you’ve caused on an unspeakably horrific weekend” Full emails below

Oh, you're doomscrolling current events? That's baby shit. I'm doomscrolling the events of 536. A volcano just erupted in Iceland. Snow just fell during the summer in China. Crops are failing. All of the crops are failing.

Excellent. I prefer my disasters one at a time. I can more effectively savor them that way.

Wait, you can kill people by going to brunch? I've been doing it wrong all my life...?

Everyone saw Grand Park's hot pink benches being stacked into a barricade on Sunday. What an exceptional statement from RIOS, the benches' designers instagram.com/rios.imagines "These pieces were designed to move, adapt, welcome, connect — and now protect"

I will be excited for Smart Fridges when I can call them from the grocery store and they can tell me not only whether I have green onions, but whether they're fresh and I have enough for the recipe I'm planning. Anything else is bullshit and not worth my time.

even though LA is a sexy news story, neighbors have been protecting neighbors across the country all year and they will continue to. You have a community right outside your door. Care for it.

Something something charismatic leaders. This may or may not be about Dune. #Dune #Dunesky #Memes #Sietchposting

Also, I honestly just don't like weed that much?

If you think you’ve made poor life decisions, there is a woman who not only married Stephen Miller, she left him for Elon Musk.

I am tired of antisemitism. And I am tired of being expected to be ok with antisemitism when the Jews who it’s directed at are Israelis.

I, an American and mom to three other Americans, very much want COVID Boosters, kthxbi

Some political commentators never worked in a dive bar, and it shows. (To be fair, I didn't either. But my baby sister did, and has 86-ed enough drunken frat boys that I'm real clear on what that means.)

I'm not saying it's the sharks... But I am saying that since planes started falling off aircraft carriers we haven't had a "beach closed due to sharks" day and maybe it's not a coincidence?

Poland. Poland specifically. The country which suffered the highest documented percentage loss of their Jewish population in WWII, starting during the 'phony war' of 1939. Polish Jews went somewhere, but it sure wasn't the middle east. Somehow this makes the holocaust denial worse.

But hey, if we're really lucky we'll have a new pope just in time for the apocalypse...? (I'm pretty sure there's some list of popes that indicates that this is supposed to be the last one, but I'm not checking because I am both Jewish and highly superstitious.)

Warning: If you listen to podcasts about Jewish Demonology in the car, some day your thirteen year old WILL try to get out of his math homework by telling his teacher that even numbers summon demons and that will be a fun, fun parent-teacher conference.

145% TARIFFS ON AMERICAN JOKES THAT ARE RECYCLED SOVIET JOKES

A big old hole has opened up in front of Uptown Balloons at 25th and Hennepin. Unclear if it's man-made or an act of God punishing us for expanding the definition of Uptown beyond what He intended.

I cannot think of anything more "America First!" than Americorps. What the fuck is DOGE thinking?

This is the number one thing I learned living overseas for 13 years. Culture is way messier and more fascinating than the borders we've drawn (allegedly) around it.

h/t to Greg Morrow for this-- They cured symptomatic rabies in mice. RABIES. www.embopress.org/doi/full/10....

OTD in 1949 Operation Priboi started. USSR forcibly deported *90,000* Baltic people to 'inhospitable parts' of Russia. 70% of those deported were women & children under 16. Imagine mass deporting children today....

You...can't....deport...a citizen? Like, that's not how that works. And the dude in charge of the Department that runs that sort of thing should maybe know that?

1 year ago ISIS attacked theatre in Moscow. 🇺🇸: ISIS is about to attack you 🇷🇺: LIARS!! ISIS: We attacked you 🇷🇺: it was 🇺🇦 🇺🇦: It wasn’t us ISIS: It was us 🇷🇺: Here is van with 🇺🇦 plates! Everyone: The van is from 🇧🇾 ISIS: It was us 🇷🇺: It was 🇺🇸&🇺🇦 ISIS: For fuck's sake!!

So after a summer of washing my hair in a sink with dish soap or a camp shower with Dr. Bronners, I've worked really hard to get it healthy again. ...and succeeded so well that now it's smooth, soft, and WILL NOT stay in a fucking pony tail. #icantwin

The Houthis are targeting U.S. Assets in the Red Sea, and work just moved the laundry to the far other side of camp. Guess which of these I'm somehow more concerned about? (it's HOT, okay? And laundry is heavy and doesn't fit well on my bike.)

I put the ones I like the most together? And try to group a series, if I have space. And then the pretty ones go on a different shelf so I can show them off. That's totally organization, right?
