Destiny is a great game, although it’s really dense, I know new players can come in pretty confused. But I love the lore, art and gunplay, probably played an hour a day for the last 7 years.

Ya, I’m not even sure how one goes about marketing an art book, beyond of course word of mouth stuff like your excellent feed does.

Would love to know a unit value to “incredibly well” :) but getting figures from people is tough. I wouldn’t be surprised if arcane did well though, it’s all the kids are talking about these days when it comes to animation.

All 3 books are excellent, worth the cash IMO

I believe I have video of that session saved on my hard drive somewhere :)

Everything is now in question of course with the tariffs here in the US. Either book prices will have to double, or people will have to do what I’m doing, I won’t be printing books again until 2028

There is definitely an audience, but its size is questionable. Even huge IPs like a Disney art book usually doesn’t see more than 5 figure unit sales. But if you’re fine with regular profit, there’s profit to be made, just not mega profit :)

It’s more than just pictures, it’s how the different pictures interact on the page, the captions, etc. In my ideal world, I’d want everything both digital and physical, digital so I can face better color reproduction, and physical for the joy having a tangible well made book gives me.

Advantages include the tactile feel of paper, collecting a bunch of work in a single easy to access spot, physical media means the art doesn’t get removed from the internet leaving you high and dry, and good book layout and formatting can be an art in itself…

This is a meaty topic :) the two downsides to books IMO is that many images tend to be too dark, which is almost impossible to fix without tons of expensive test prints (I’ve done many tests before printing my own books). And there is an eventual physical limit to shelf size…

Bungie’s been good about posting a lot of their concept online, so there was less new work to me, but still some stuff I’ve never seen before, and for people who aren’t as online as me, tons of new and beautiful work

Right there with you, the last 5 years of video game work, all games cancelled, all artwork never to be seen publicly. Sigh…

As a big destiny fan, interested in seeing the similarities and differences. Looking forward to the reveal next Saturday.

Let’s not forget crates for players to hide behind. Think that was the most common design I made in games.

I did something similar for a piece of halo grunt fan art I did 20 years ago. Those McFarland figures are so great for pose reference :)

Then ya, I bet the donut will be fine. Make sure to post your final donut when you’re done :) I’m also going to check those other videos people recommended, they may be useful for future teaching gigs.

But I used the blender tutorial for my students at the CCA 2 years ago, and most of them had minimal 3d experience, and they seemed to do fine, so I’d still recommend it. Look up “Andrew price blender donut” and you’ll find it.

Personally I really liked the famed donut tutorial by Andrew price. But I know a few people who feel that tutorial is better if you already have a lot of experience with other 3d apps, and just want to know how to do things in blender specifically…

Even if they get the comments I question if they’ll even care, but I submitted some anyways, I don’t want to feel I didn’t do everything I could.

Not sure if I saw the original Star Wars doc, maybe I should look for all of these on youtube :)

I had a friend who worked on it, sounds like the whole project was just a production mess from the beginning. I think it could have worked under the right conditions, but I’ll stick with the original :)
