My driver today might be the wisest man ever. He told me many stories and then drops this: “The only thing that matters is how you treat your family. And how you love. So many people aren’t mature or serious. They center childish things like money and sex. Those things are transient.” This.

Walking through the airport listening to my favorite Doechii and then Siri talks over it from a text CVS sent about how 1 in 3 people my age get shingles and how I should come in for the shingles vx and it was a complete shift in tone.

My cab driver in Dallas, who is a million years old (he laughed and gave me permission to say that), is from Ethiopia. And was helped as a refugee in the early 1980’s in Kenya by an Irish woman named Alice [last name]. We agreed: People will always remember the names of the people who helped them.

In my inbox today, in case you need it too: “Never apologize for nerdiness; it’s the intersection of passion and knowledge.”

I highly appreciate and recommend this if anyone else is feeling resisty. 🙂

🧵 I’ve been thinking all day about a beautiful story of bravery at a weekly newspaper in Michigan. It was 1977 and the White Lake Observer was covering the poisoning of White Lake, as well as the poisoning of 2 billion gallons of groundwater with carcinogens by the Hooker Chemical Company. 1/9

Are you bored tonight? Send your five accomplishments, maybe your shopping list, or your five thoughts on Elon from the past week to OPM at [email protected].

I just remembered the letter I got a week after my daughter died, from someone who started the letter with, “I know exactly how you feel, because I am an empath.” I’m wondering if their empathic skills have improved enough yet to show themselves to the door.

Elon wants to know: what did you do this week? Reply in five bullet points.

"Intimate partner violence is the number one cause of serious injury or death of women ages 18 to 24 ... and homicide is the leading cause of death for pregnant women in the U.S."

I wrote a thing. ❤️

Random tech gratitude thread: I really love parking apps. They save so much hassle and no more running out to fill the meter. I also love computers and word processors because editing on typewritten work was so hard. You?

I found a bird in my yard. Then wrote this poem in the middle of the night after a weird dream.

Y’all know @as-king.bsky.social is the best right? Loved talking censorship, the freedom read, and malicious compliance with her tonight. And then on the phone afterwards learning a lot about toxic waste!

Are we embarrassed yet? Hand me the freedom fries.

Did you know that before the 19th amendment one of the reasons given for why women shouldn’t be allowed to vote was: “the mental exertion of voting would cause infertility in women.” This was clearly an idea coming from people who didn’t understand the mental exertion of organizing a household.

Interviewer: Who were your first readers? Me: Those bitches who read my journals in college. 💅

Big shoutout to @marthabee.bsky.social for telling me that it is Tuesday and not Friday. This is what writing friends are for, y’all.

Just letting you know that resistbot is still working for us over at 50409. Text RESIST.

Happy Black History Month, and yeah, we're still doing that.

Hi book friends. A few years ago, I released a book called DIG. It’s been used by universities as an incoming freshman read. It’s also been banned. It’s about potatoes and the systems of oppression they caused. There’s a character named The Freak and I think you’ll like her. #booksky

I still have a bunch of these stuck all over my house from 2016. They have helped me in times of rage and confusion. This one is in the kitchen so it helps me with the cost of groceries.
