also shout out to The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, technically the games released last decade but they didn't see an English release until 2021 so I give it honorary status for the purpose's of this list.

like refilling potions makes sure people don't feel like they lack resources, restarting in the middle of a fight makes it feel like less progress is erased and making scoring something you have to unlock means you cant get a "bad" score on your first run.

Honestly I feel like those things (and a lot more aspects of the games design) is done to try and not scare away anyone who hasn't played action games before but picked up the game because their a fan of Final Fantasy and its a numbered FF game.

As much as I do think companies chasing Destiny is responsible for a lot of how live service games get designed I also want to point out that trying to get people to have repeat payments for the same game has been a longstanding goal of the industry, lest we forget the MMO goldrush brought by WOW.

I would say Dynasty Warriors: Origins, but tbh while I do really like the game with how much I have been replaying games I already played before this year it doesn't exactly have a lot of competition.

eh I wouldn't go that far, at least these boss fights can be comboed at some point and are actually fast and aggressive.
