On this week's issue of 5x5 I listened to some bands playing the Fistful of Ska all dayer tomorrow incl @filthymilitia.bsky.social, the Green Day stuff was from a trip to the great kid friendly show last weekend. Also some faves during work, some inspo stuff and @astralocale.bsky.social 👋

This song is such a bop! Do NOT miss this one!!!

Good point, respectfully though, I'm Alive!! by Atlas & Oracle

Look at what @indivisible.org is doing with a FRACTION of what that party has at its disposal.

What if experimental ska band Atlas & Oracle's new song changes the world, and you were one of the first fifty people to stream share and add to a playlist?? 🤔🙏🥰 "I'm Alive!!" is for anyone who's short on hope and looking for a idealistic yet grounded soundtrack to help them keep fighting!!

Reposting with complete alt text.

This track is busted good. Extremely happy to see the rollout

Don't do it until you know it'll be perfect? Wrong! Practice MAKES perfect. Do it anyway, do it scared, and make adjustments from THERE. Letting your inner critic decide is just guessing. Instead of guessing, don't you want to... find out? That's what our new song is about!! links.astralocale.com

LEFTIST TRASH WHO WON'T SHUT UP: keep it up 💪🥹 If you're fresh out of optimism and in desperate need of some hope, we wrote a song that... well, it might still make you sad. But on the other side of this sadness is resolve, & that's what we need to create a brighter future! links.astralocale.com

Seriously, I fucking love @astralocale.bsky.social They just dropped a new recording of one of my favorite tracks they sing, and you've gotta check this out. It's a message we all need to hear right now astralocale.bandcamp.com/track/im-alive

hello cis friends this is what people mean by trans genocide if a type of person does not officially exist, then any harm against them cannot be measured or reported this headline change isn't even being caused by an executive order it's simply the NYT editors deciding we don't deserve to exist

the slavery pilot program (prisons) was a success so they're bringing it nationwide. hello, everyone who argued with prison abolitionists on the grounds of "political pragmatism"

Reminder: Black history offers many examples of fighting authoritarianism, so one doesn't always have to look to Europe. Nazi lawyers looked to Jim Crow for inspiration for their racist laws. Read as much about struggles against Jim Crow as you do about other examples of resisting authoritarianism

no the fuck we are NOT making “LGBQ+” a thing and if I see any of you motherfuckers using that acronym it’s on sight Marsha P. Johnson did not smash in the windshield of a police car for this

Really important lesson here. Executive Orders are not laws. Keep on doing what you think is right. Find others who will do the same. It's easier if you're working together. And don't forget, even though it's slow, people are fighting these in the courts and the streets.

"Trust the process" I say, breath shaky, holding a gun, pointing at version of myself in the mirror that panics every time my efforts don't pay off instantaneously. Tears stream down my face. "Trust the FUCKING process."

Absolutely hate that putting our music out there requires me to be seen. Pushing through it anyway. I refuse to let my fear of what could happen get in the way of finding out what will.

Hope is driving me more than anything else right now. If you're gonna start resisting hopeful themes because of the state of the world, you're gonna be letting yourself down. Limit your social media use between posts. Create more than you consume. Bring change into the world and don't FUCKin give up

not sure how you can see this and not immediately call for @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social to step down from any leadership positions. he is absolutely useless

You're never going to know how your actions ripple out into the world. The 100th time you repeat something it might get heard or understood by someone for the very first time, and they might not even leave you a like or a comment. I refuse to give up on a world that's immensely capable of growth

This video was absolute crickets on TikTok, but Instagram reels has me fearing (and fighting) for my life

What's your favorite ska protest song?? I want to make a playlist to boost the bands who are or have been out there spreading the message

Humility is in order right now. No one knows what will make a difference. So do everything that you can to take some form of constructive action. 1000 people taking action is ALWAYS better than 1000 people doing nothing or 1000 people acting like East German figure skating judges.

If you've written music about politics and you're not spending time engaging in and talking about politics right now, I'm gonna think you're a poser probably forever
