Thank you, DOGE, for clearly visualizing what incredible value the American people get from their national parks. 17,700 permanent employees making an average of $81,000 a year serving 325 million visitors annually. Is there a better value in the entire federal government?

I honestly didn't think the death of the United States would be this stupid.

These slides are a great introductory resource for scientists (and others) wanting to know more about what is currently happening to science during MAGA-2025. The text/prose on the last slide hit me like a ton of bricks.

Personally I think it's bad to hand over the US government to an unelected foreign billionaire but what do I know.

Musk is the culmination of a slow-moving corporate coup by the oligarch class that has been decades in the making. But that doesn't change the fact that this marks a new and unspeakably dangerous chapter.

Apparently the USA is 176% non-white, the great replacement has succeeded beyond our wildest dreams.

First they came for the "DEI hires" and trans people, and I said nothing Because I don't read poetry Surely this couldn't affect me later I'm sure everything is fine

Writing-wise, most ridiculous moment of decade was as writer-guest for a workshop held at someone's house. During the workshop, I got a massive headache & asked for aspirin. Someone gave me aspirin after which I began to itch. "Sorry--gave u my anti-itching pills by mistake." 1/?

Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research. I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.

i have to assume that “pursuing DEI efforts” means hiring anyone who isn’t a white man?

Apropos of *waves hands* all sorts of things, it's struck me recently that saying someone has "#MeToo allegations" really obscures what they're being accused of, and in some cases lessening the perceived severity might even be the goal of using that terminology.

This was really good, I'm looking forward to the rest of the week's coverage. 2006 Ricky wouldn't have believed this, but I really think we're at the point where consumer tech is Good Enough and continued iteration in the pursuit of endless growth will just make things worse.

I did it again! Jurassic Park with accurate raptors, a short part 2 #jurassicpark #blender3d

mine will always be the sperm whale who reacted to a Roman soldier throwing a bottle at him off the Byzantine coast by sinking every ship he could off that coast for the next 60 years and had the emperor declare him an enemy of the state and name him after the Titan who attacked mount olympus

Alright, I have some thoughts and observations about the drones. I would absolutely love it to be aliens, seriously, please let it be aliens at some point. BUT my main takeaway from this is that most people really don't look up at the sky much or have any idea what they might see there. 1/?

My gingerbread for this year. Merry Christmas and happy Voyages to all!!

Next you're going to tell me that if I give my friend some money for no reason and some cocaine falls out of their pocket and I trip and fall into the pile of cocaine and inhale it all out of surprise, I've somehow committed some kind of crime!? I thought this was America

The world's richest man managed to take $190 million away from a *child cancer research center* with his posts yesterday. Funding now stripped in the new bill.

Saw someone upbraiding someone else for having a hobby while the world is on fire, and, my friends: 1. The world is ever on fire, this is today's conflagration; 2. If you don't find time for rest and joy the fire will consume you; 3. Don't let people shame you for being an entire human.

Definitely worth burning down the planet for this, thank goodness.

must read of the day @olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social "important not to confuse the stakes of self-definition w the stakes of political success...We are better off doing w people who don’t share our political labels but are nevertheless trying to accomplish same goals" www.teenvogue.com/story/trump-...

I was somewhat concerned when I first filed pieced about Trump voters living in an alternate universe and supporting a made up Trump who doesn’t really exist but I think those things have been borne out bsky.app/profile/jame...

“This is an enormous heist. They’re just backing the truck up to the government in front of all of us. A massive bailout to the crypto world,” says @chrislhayes.bsky.social on the GOP crypto bill.

The success (knock on wood) of Bluesky is a great demonstration of the fact that making your products shittier to increase profit only works if you have no viable competitors. Turns out monopolies are bad!

Good reminder of what conservatives do and don't mean when they talk about "protecting kids." (Also, I know, the trans panic is not actually about protecting kids)

It's Friday, here's a good fluffball/crime against nature.

This is one of the things I missed about old, good Twitter - timely reporting on events from folks on the ground as they happen. Crazy stuff going down in South Korea, good luck to them that it all shakes out ok.

Don't let your kids get hooked on the plastic craic. I just paid $63 for a new army book (sorry, "battletome", I'm dating myself) like a good little piggie😂 Really though, their models continue to be the best in the industry and I'd be buying them to paint even if I didn't play.

Rolling into the Christmas season like

After the initial hype for EVs I've absolutely come around to believing that ebikes are the real game changing technology. Now we just need the road infrastructure to support their use
