Last week we uplinked the sequence that Europa Clipper will execute to perform the Mars Flyby planned for this week! Look how close (884km!) to Mars the spacecraft will fly: eyes.nasa.gov/staging/apps... This will also be our first eclipse since launch and will last for 51 mins!

Four years ago, our fierce #Perseverance rover landed on Mars. In the midst of an unprecedented pandemic, we were all reminded - even if temporarily - of what can be accomplished when we all work together. Hereā€™s to many more years of exploration and discovery on the Red Planet. Merci! šŸ¤©šŸŽ‚

Are the rumors of 15% layoffs at Blue Origin tomorrow true?

Crazy to think that it already takes us almost 10min to talk to Europa Clipper and hear back from it due to its distance from us! (What we call the Round Trip Light Time)

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) is a longtime friend of RFK, Jr. and reportedly has not yet committed to voting against him. Personal friendship are not relevant to whether a nut job like RFK, Jr. is qualified. Call Whitehouse: 202-224-2921 Or message: whitehouse.senate.gov/contact/email-sheldon

um

Itā€™s hard to get back to work when 200 colleagues lost their house in the fires and more have been displaced. This week we have commanded the Clipper spacecraft from home, with help from our APL friends. We find some comfort in the fact that the vehicle is still doing ok in space. #ForwardTogether

Although first responders were successful in keeping the fire from JPL, over 150 JPLers have lost their homes. Hereā€™s link to the Caltech/JPL disaster relief fund if youā€™re so inclined: caltech.imodules.com/controls/ema... Thanks for your support of our JPL family.

JPL will remain closed next week. Weā€™re hearing that more than 150 of our colleagues have lost their house in the fire. Iā€™m so heartbroken for everyone. šŸ˜ JPL restera fermĆ© la semaine prochaine. On vient dā€™apprendre que plus de 150 de nos collĆØgues ont perdu leur maison. šŸ˜

I donā€™t know who took this shocking picture, but it shows how close the fire got to JPL. šŸ˜± Official updates from the lab are posted at: https://buff.ly/4fQMtF4 šŸ‡«šŸ‡· Les flammes de lā€™incendie dā€™Eaton au moment oĆ¹ elles Ć©taient Ć  proximitĆ© de JPL. #LAfires

Update on the water in Pasadena: not drinkable in the gray zone, drinkable outside the gray zone https://buff.ly/3DSeU8k

as LA is burning, a swath of the country is recovering from an ice storm, Alabama is preparing for up to 6ā€ of snow and Iā€™m praying for the TX power grid, a reminder: we donā€™t need climate action just for future generations, we need it now. the climate crisis is here, all around us

If you get your water from PWP like I do, it may be contaminated as a result of the fires. Follow the official info: pwp.cityofpasadena.net/eaton-fire-2...

I keep posting stuff like this, but I need some outlet to express my utter shock at the desolation seen in the images from my community in Altadena. My heart goes out to everyone affected. Crossing my fingers for a reprieve from the winds and fires tonight. www.reddit.com/r/pasadena/s...

ABC, NBC & CBS dedicated about 16 minutes of airtime last night to the California wildfires without once mentioning climate change. Since the news failed do it's job, here's a short summary of the role of climate change and wildfire risk: www.noaa.gov/noaa-wildfir...

Mount Wilson Observatory seems ok for now.

Our JPL director Dr Laurie Leshin reporting that ā€œNo fire damage so far (some wind damage) but it is very close to the lab.ā€ šŸ„ŗ Hoping it stays mostly unaffected. #LAfires

Heartbroken by the devastation from the LA fires and high winds. Grateful I havenā€™t had to evacuate (Iā€™m a few blocks south of the evacuation zone for Eaton Fire), but some of my friends/ JPL coworkers had to. Hoping everyone is safe, and that their houses and JPL make it.šŸ¤žšŸ¼

This map is scary.

We just got notified that JPL will be closed tomorrow due to the winds and fires. We will not be commanding Europa Clipper tomorrow.

Things are very scary here in Pasadena. And the winds are only gonna get worse. Iā€™m using the app Watch Duty to check the fire map and get evacuation orders info. Stay safe everyone.

Still a lot of open questions as the new administration enters the scene.

Happening nowā€¦. šŸ˜¬

I know this looks like a silly mistake but I can sympathize. I have always felt that time was one of the hardest things to manage properly on spacecraft. There are always many subtleties and gotchas (including relativistic effects!) that can bite you!

ā€œIt was Carter who ultimately saved NASAā€™s space shuttle program ā€” giving the country perhaps its most iconic space vehicle. And it is Carterā€™s words that have been journeying aboard the Voyager probes for more than 45 years, carrying a message of peace and hope deep into the cosmos.ā€

Update: NASA reported the Parker Solar Probe successfully completed its closest flyby of the sun. On Dec. 26, the team received a signal from the probe "indicating it's in good health and operating normally."
