I was posting not to him, but to the thread. talking to the void, so to speak. But even if taken directly, he is the one posting about doing this, so why shouldn’t my response also be directed at him. If he’s so eager to use a symbol, he should create one rather than adopt a symbol of terrorism.

“bouie” whats that? your reading comprehension is absolute shit, because not once did I tell anyone what they can or cannot do. I simply just told you that it’s fucking gross, wrong, and that we can aspire to do better.

well, firstly it wasn’t a symbol used solely against Black people. So in your weird dream of taking it and making it your own, your erasing and forgetting everybody else (non blk ppl) it was used to terrorize. Why are you so eager to utilize a symbol of terrorism? You’re weird and gross.
comment in response to post
it originated from there, sure but it is a symbol and a flag that has been flown across the west post civil war to do nothing but terrorize immigrants, indigenous, queer people, Black people, anyone else other than white men. why do you ignore the very real terror it has caused people?

we don’t need to leverage a symbol of bigotry to gain “liberty”

ive never understood why ppl want to take a symbol of racism, misogyny, and homophobia and use it as your own. it’s a gross fucking flag, and it has no redemption. Burn it. Create your own symbols

but even the use of the name in a disparaging way, is more modern and contemporary. As it was starting to become popularized post 1950’s, it very much was a “positive” marketing/propaganda campaign.

the origins of the namer “americano” are from 1950’s Jamaica. more than anything it references the prevalence of the America’s drinking “milder” filter coffee as opposed to espresso dominated drinks.
comment in response to post
no shit its ment to be disparaging, i made no statement to counter that notion. and yes, there is truth to American soldiers watering down their espresso in WW2. but the usage of the word in that context came later, on a global misunderstanding of what different cultures mean by weak/strong coffee.

i said i get it, but like if we are being honest; if y’all wanna stick it to USA for our sins, you should, let’s honor and uplift the rest of the Americas, you know all those brown people that are actually from here. Canada is chill, but white western society does not need to be uplifted rn.

thats a lovely post WW2 story, and not the actual history of the drink. some truth to it, but its not where the name comes from.
comment in response to post
i get it, buuuuut i dont. “americano” as a name for a coffee drink came about in Jamaica, referencing mild coffee associated with the America’s (plural), NOT specifically or strictly the US, but N., C., and S. America we had our “freedome fries” tho, so why not

which American accent? a generic one sure, maybe some that are overly glamorized in media, but lets hear an Aussie do an Ozark English, Chicano, or a Yooper accent. What about a NoLa accent‽ but yes, its true, we’re not good at Aussie/Kiwi accents.

and it doesn’t have to be difficult to do. regardless of any specific boycotts or what have you’s, just simply define your own consumer ethics, and stick to it. think of your consumer boundaries as a map to help you build your life. make them habits.

most likely is. there is a penguin in the background that appears to be essentially waddling in place - a lil side to side, but not gaining any ground. seems like at AI red flag to me.

I don’t understand. Why should Norway/Universities invest in PhD’s who are too self-important to learn the language’s/cultures of the people/places that hosting them. Seems like a good example of capitalism demand for results/gains at all costs. the cost here being communal and cultural respect.
