This doesn't preclude improvisation, of course... just that creating each initial set-up should be done with some care, and then improvise from a good base.

My best advice is: "slow down." Imagine what you see in your viewfinder as an oil painting. Does everything look like it was added to the composition *on purpose*? If not, adjust your frame to exclude it, add a fill light to remove the shadow, re-position your model to fix it, etc.

lol... I wish I could claim credit, but it was just how the files got uploaded. It *is* a nice effect, though, isn't it? ;-D

The last shoot I did, we had both a loud heater and loud music, and no strobe. We agreed that I would click my fingers as the sign I'd gotten what I needed. It was *great*. I could take my time, get multiple shots at different distances (prime lens). Will definitely use that trick again.

This was from my first shoot in 2023. Right: Hire an experienced model, and be up-front that you don't know what you're doing. She was fantastic at helping me thought it. Wrong: Being shy about saying you've got enough of a certain idea, and asking the model to move on to something new.

It's a lovely photo, but the critique I'd offer is that she's not *enough* of a distraction. That is... my eye has trouble settling in any one place. I feel like it would be a stronger composition if she more clearly stood out from the background (e.g., add color, darken bg, etc.).

Hello! This is my BS account for my artistic nude / boudoir work. I'd be delighted to be part of your list!
