Hey hey hey @ash-reads-romance.bsky.social l I know this is right up your size-difference loving alley 😘

I don't think the term "enjoying" quite captures it. Clover is perfection 🤌

Add weird penises to everything... because why TF not? (Me: Returns to their current WIP with a shifter who has diphallia because I felt like writing it)

Half full is better than empty 😉 definitely could’ve been worse (now I feel like shit for saying it but seeing folks patting her on the back for this ONE THING has been making my brain bleed 😂) I wonder what my kid says about me to their therapist 😂😂

I honestly don’t understand the mental gymnastics people have to twist themselves into to justify stealing shit and acting like the aggrieved party when it goes wrong. Pay for your shit and you’ll be a-okay. 👌

My mom has always been open-minded… she grew up in an ultra conservative area so I don’t know how she managed it but I thank the universe. (Not to ruin the message, but she’s also a raging narcissist and pretty much left me alone to raise myself from 7 yo on, so I’m still pretty fucked up 😂)

Right? Each illegal dl is like a knife to the back. We end up bleeding out. I know authors who have stopped publishing because they were being pirated more than what they sold and it broke them. This is why I commission art for some my books. Artists fuel my muse. I can’t let y’all quit.

I went indie in 2012 and self-pub because those publishers did little to nothing for the 60% they took. I still only make ~$2-3 an ebook… and have to pay for the editing and cover art/book art myself but it’s better than where I was.

I made about $1 a book (it was through an indie publisher, so I made very little.) Of course, anyone who pirates was never going to buy the book anyway but it still gutted me. $40,000 would’ve been life changing for me and my kid.

I’ll also share my favorite story about pirating. I was contacted by a “reader” who supposedly got a virus from one of my books and demanded I replace her laptop. She got it on a pirate site and I laughed SO FUCKING HARD. She threatened to sue. “Go for it. I’d love to see you in court.”

Thanks but I’m one in a million people experiencing the same. But it’s good to have threads like this. If one person one regularly gets their books/art by pirating it reads this and rethinks how they consume, it’s a good thing.

Thanks but I bet every indie author and artist out there has a similar story. We’re not rich. The assumption from the public that we are and that it’s okay to steal from us (be it pirating OR generative AI) is fucking gross 🤢

Back in 2009, I found my first novel on a pirate site w/a counter. 40,000 downloads. Me, the single mom working a FT job that wasn’t writing, w/thousands in student loan debt, working paycheck to paycheck, the one who would be financially destroyed by an unexpected car repair, broke down in tears.

Right? Pretty sure this is satire. Maybe I should write it 😉

I was JUST having a conversation about this with another author last night, how it's becoming cringy to write billionaires. I suspect you're going to see less and less of them available in coming months.

I yelled at my computer screen so many times watching that press conference. When T answered that question with "What if a bomb blew up right now?" I thought PLEASE... just let Zelensky get out first.
comment in response to post
I didn't have the time, but I watched the entire press conference anyway. It was a total shakedown from the get-go. Trump wanted the Ukrainian mineral rights and was offering "help" to get them. Zelensky simply wants peace for his people. What a jarring difference.

The only other category I can imagine him doing that in is grifting.

Oh yeah… but this was waaaaaay over my expectations.

I've slowly been moving my books wide (to iBooks, Kobo, etc...) but I have a MASSIVE backlist and the time to load books to other sites takes time away from writing, so I tend to do it in small batches. Twisted E-Publishing is pretty much up to date with my titles (*winces* I need to go check!)

Amazon and KU are the bulk of most indie authors' income, which has NEVER sat well with me that one company has so much market control—but at the same time, the thought of them no longer being around terrifies me.

Sixty! Wow..that's amazing! I wish I'd known sooner but I suppose late's better than never. I grew up in a different world. We didn't have discussions on gender the way folks do today. I also think the fact I'm fluid made it harder to recognize. Maybe if I'd been born 20 years later, I'd have known.

LOL... what's wild is I'd just turned 50 when I realized I was nonbinary. It took a conversation with a friend and a comment I made to make that lightbulb pop over my head—and now looking back, I realize it was SOOOO obvious. To know she's apparently had suspicions all this time is a hoot.

I'm so lucky so many wonderful authors agreed to donate their time and their talent to such a wonderful cause 🥰
