This thread on PIP is essential reading for those of us lucky enough never to have had to claim it, yet.

#benefitslifestyle!!

White supremacists hiding the achievements of non-white people is a pretty good indication that they know white people aren’t supreme.

I had somehow forgotten the stupendous Iggy Azalea lyric ‘you be frontin’ like breasts’ until Spotify just threw it at me, provoking a sonorous hootlol at 4am

GOD THIS IS FUCKING MISERABLE. I’ve gotta force myself away from it now. Love and solidarity etc xx

Gonna keep flagging this, as a disabled/chronically ill person looking to live with my partner for the first time ever at thirty-fkin-five. I have no choice but to accept losing my income. All of it immediately & indefinitely, but around half of it permanently. And they’re coming for the other half.

Watching my country gear up to mass kill lots of disabled people is just numbing at this point. They are doing it on purpose - I am sick of the faux hand wringing of "How do they think it will help". They do not, they want you working or dead.

A reminder to my disabled friends. Your value is not based on your productivity. Your bodies & minds are valid, beautiful & important just as they are. You are worthy of love, deserve comfort, joy and safety. We will fight ableist narratives about our lives. You're not alone #DisabilityJustice

Thankyou for this 💖 Remember, everyone:

In my work, I meet people across all political beliefs. I’ve never met anyone who—when faced with the brutal reality of our benefits system—wasn’t horrified. There is no system handing out free money. What exists is a system that degrades, impoverishes and punishes those in need.

At the heart of every attack on disability benefits is the myth disabled people “get perks”: a free car, loads of cash, a life off work. It misrepresents the reality of disability, whilst exploiting low wages and high living costs to make the public envy people in daily pain.

Labour really are a disgusting party. Skimming over the fact that PIP is *not* an out of work benefit, they want to make the already excruciating process of claiming it even harder. And if you're under 22, disabled, and unable to work? Just die, I guess. Grim.

Effin Birds always knows. Gonna go do Not Internet for a bit. Look after yourselves my dears xx

And furthermore! While the ill and disabled are kept terrified, stressed & preoccupied fighting for the bare minimum, not only can they not fight for better for themselves, they can’t do it for others. Having to do this at the same time as what’s happening in Gaza? It feels DISGUSTING.

People need to get this into their heads. I have been on top-rate ESA for 16 years. Its rate was frozen for much of that under the Tories (+ LibDems). My yearly income has been between £2.4 and £7.6K, mostly hovering around £6-6.5K. You. Can’t. Fkin. Live. On. This. You can’t EXIST on it.

‘Today’s statement will be worrying for sick and disabled people who already need support, but they need to understand that more sick and disabled people are going to need support, and so you all need to be punished’ this cannot be serious journalism

The UK's richest man, one person, is worth THREE TIMES what the UK Labour government is willing to kill thousands of disabled people to get.

Love to EVERY disabled person right now. You are valid. You matter. Please keep some hope that we can fight this. I’m definitely not shutting up any time soon. Take some time to yourself and do something that brings you love & joy. You deserve to be here.

Reporting this as ‘eye-catching’ in the quoted news article there???

And you don’t have to worry about or provide for the dead.

I have always been disabled (or, as I want to put it, ✨I’m on the blind path baby I was b0rn this way✨). It’s degenerative. I acquired further disabilities/chronic illnesses while still a kid. Then I became an adult who couldn’t work, as Clegg & Cameron took power. I need a new word for ‘exhausted’.

Love to see Keir Starmer’s clever grown-up Labour enforcing the shitbrained notion that young people can’t be sick or disabled. Also rolling out ‘sick/CI people AND the young can live on nothing’, plus the grand conclusion ‘so non-existent sick/CI young’ns will work SO MUCH if they live on nothing!’

This is what we’re up against. She’s not willing to accept it, so it doesn’t matter if it’s true. Don’t think the post-truth thing is just an American problem.

In Feb 2009 I had to drop out of university after 5 months & return home due to my health. I applied for ESA & PIP. I got a year & a half of DWP torture: the endless epic forms, assessments, reassessments, denials, appeals, repeat repeat, we know how it goes. They gave me £50 a week the whole time.

Thread thread THREAD read it READ IT I’ll repost half of it anyway you’re gonna freaking read it

A great reminder that we should not be relying on the good will of the monied elite. A great reminder that we should tax them more instead.

I feel a strong affinity with this
