One such species is the Japanese Angel Shark or カスザメ・kasuzame in JPN. This species is critically endangered according to the IUCN. It's pancake body is just too easily scooped up by fishing trawlers.

This is my painting, "Grin," cat number 15 in the Close Encounters Collection! Yes, it's based on a real cat. #cat #art #sciart #painting

This is a tribute to Peter Benchley, author of 'Jaws', who dedicated his life to reversing the unexpected negative impact his book had on the image of sharks. We kill millions of sharks annually and demonize them in our media, who is the real monster? 💀 #Jaws #sharks #shark

夏の歌は美しい〜

I love making silly videos, but I cannot stay silent when the government wants to sell off our public lands. So let’s get political. Call your reps! Flood their IG and Facebook comments with reasons you disapprove! Protest! Do whatever you can to stop this absolute nonsense!

It would be soooooo great if I could finally get a job.

100% this! Representation of sharks in media largely takes after the runaway success of Jaws. 50 years later and we unfortunately haven't learned much. Here's to hoping for the future 🦈

A summons to start the story...

I was pretty sure I wouldn't find this word in any of my WIPs but here it is! A scene in my soft sci-fi novella that is currently on its 5th draft.

Because I can't help myself here's another excerpt from my current fantasy. #WIPSnips

Worked on my fantasy project this week where I struggled with describing a setting〜 #LGBTWriteAThon

This shark tale almost sank through the mesh of history into the murky deep but through sheer happenstance it improbably surfaced from the depths and into the light of scientific discovery.

I had a very busy week full of job interviews. Now I am in the waiting phase this week which means I will finally have time to write (A bit. Maybe. We'll see if I have the energy...)

I guess today is as good a time as any to show off just a fraction of my shark-y collection. Consider donating to an ocean-based non-profit today! I'm particularly fond of Ocearch and the work they do for shark research. Sharks are so important to the health of our oceans! #WorldOceanDay #sharks

Here's what I've read so far this year! Been letting myself read without any particular goal in mind. It's been nice just letting myself read whatever I feel like. #booksky #2025reads

Hey y'all! My name is Scheids (pronounced SHY・ds) and I am a writer, reader, amateur shark-enthusiast living in Japan. I've been "no social media" for a couple years and now feel ready to test the waters again. Hoping the waters here are a good time! ✨🦈✨
