First song was "Gimme Shelter" and I have to agree with all the commenters that at 100% speed it's not really a beginners song. Several fill variations and kick pattern variations, and flams. But it is mostly an eighth note groove once you get those down. (I sure didn't in one attempt though).

I half suspect that if I set the kit up left handed this would all be easier but I know the consensus is that (like most instruments) you’re better off just learning righty because that’s what’s always available.

White Stripes "Ball and Biscuit" is 7:30 and mostly has a nice groove that's easy to play, but then you get to the parts where Meg is crashing and again she's doing the hi hat pedal on each snare or bass hit too and the best I could manage was on the 2&4 with the snare.

In fact, other than some of the "30 Day Drummer" stuff where you're supposed to open the hi hat on 4 for an eighth note (which I sucked at), I've never particularly had to worry about opening and closing it. (I am a beginner!)

It’s an evangelical Christian thing and it’s very real that they believe in it.

The answer was not the point. The answer was never the point. The process of searching is the process of learning.
