The elegant beauty of the tuxedo cat

Day 71 of #100DaysOfPractice wasn't sure what to do and was short on time, so I tried next videos in "After 10 Day Fills" playlist. Too simple (older fill lessons), so instead tried things like doing snare flam to each tom, and trying to hold hi hat quarter notes, ride eighth notes, and snare on 2&4

Day 70 of #100DaysOfPractice final day of "10 Day Fills". The song 3x without sheet music (yesterday also none). I got lost on the transitions without it, but am getting better at recovering. They have a suggested playlist for after and I decided to give it a shot.

Carefully looked to see which knob controls which burner - promptly turned off the wrong one.

Ok, this is the last one

I know this is extremely vulgar idealism, but I do think we should try to aggressively reassert the norm that lying is bad. Not in a "Four Pinnochios" fact-checking kind of way, but in a way that frames this kind of lying as moral degeneracy that is fundamentally corrosive to the human spirit.

Day 69 of #100DaysOfPractice Day 9 of "10 Day Fills" was playing a song using the fills to transition sections, twice. Only 9:30, so I bulked it out by playing a few songs from the song list.

Day 68 of #100DaysOfPractice Two cycles of the money beat alternating blocks on hi hat, ride, and floor tom, with the crash fill from yesterday, all at a higher tempo. Timing is a bit tricky to get the kicks between the snare and crash hits and keep it even.

Days 66 & 67 of #100DaysOfPractice drum wise: same fill as before but at speed, then today new fill with alternating snare + crash then kick for a measure. Also played a little Rocksmith yesterday and my input jack was cutting out again and boo to that.

NEW: The actions of Trump and Vance in recent weeks highlight something under-appreciated. The American right is now ideologically closer to countries like Russia, Turkey and in some senses China, than to the rest of the west (even the conservative west). My column: www.ft.com/content/3046...

"the only things dems need to cave on are race, gender, policing, and immigration" what kind of victory would this be

Day 65 of #100DaysOfPractice simple one today. Still doing a full bar of eighth notes for the fill, but now it's four on snare, two on high rack tom, two on floor tom. I noticed when moving to constant eighth notes on the ride, I had trouble getting back to it on the & of 1 after the crash.

Day 64 of #100DaysOfPractice is day 4 of "10 Day Fills". Back to a slower tempo and fourth bar is all snare eighth notes. My problem was I kept hitting a 9th snare at same time as bass drum kick and crash on the one of the next bar. It felt better that way, but tried to stick to what's on screen.

Day 63 of #100DaysOfPractice basically same as yesterday, but tempo sped up, alternating blocks of snare only fill and snare + tom fill. At the higher tempo I caught myself not always hitting four equal notes. Gotta work on consistency.

This is not law. It couldn’t withstand legal scrutiny. Don’t comply in advance university presidents. General counsel, don’t panic. Do law, not vibes.

Almost every “Trump announces he’s going to do X” article is something I know or suspect is illegal or unconstitutional. It’d be nice if instead of stenography there was a mention straight away or a like little box listing laws it’s likely breaking to do X.

Day 62 of #100DaysOfPractice only difference today was instead of 4 eighth notes on snare, 2 snare + 2 high tom. After, I tried for a couple mins to play eighth notes on ride, kick on 1 + 3, snare on 2 + 4, while keeping quarter note pulse on the hi hat pedal. Wobbly but good independence practice.

Day 61 of #100DaysOfPractice decided to do another structured thing with drums, so Day 1 of "10 Day Fills". Another beginner course, starting with the "money beat" and every four bars replacing 3 and 4 with eighth notes on the snare, then crash on the 1.

Day 60 of #100DaysOfPractice found all the White Stripes songs marked as "Beginner" in Drumeo and went through them, sight reading + existing knowledge of the songs as a listener. What surprised me is how often Meg is keeping a constant pulse on the hi hat peddle, which is not something I'm used to.

Day 59 of #100DaysOfPractice I’m bone tired and bleh. Watched some of the Drumeo Beatles songs and tried to attend to the drum part and notation. Too tired to actually drum. Did a little Rocksmith but exhaustion made me fumble fingered and something is up w/ my output jack. Bad day.

Can some high-ranking Democrats go on record telling our former allies how embarrassed all decent Americans are by this degrading spectacle & that we stand by Ukraine’s sovereignty? We need to get some shadow-government diplomacy in place for when/if we ever escape from this hell.

Day 58 of #100DaysOfPractice no time at all to practice today. Gotta take a bye. I’m going to be practicing after the 100 days. Kiddo had her district wide orchestra concert and the evening is gone.

Days 56 & 57 of #100DaysOfPractice some Rocksmith. Also watched a couple Rhett Shull guitar lessons. And made Beatles beginner and intermediate playlists on Drumeo for next time I can drum.

Musk is a sensitive little orchid and I wish more people would figure out that it’d be really easy to push him over the edge simply by being meaner to him.

Days 54 & 55 of #100DaysOfPractice yesterday I just had time to squeeze in some Rocksmith. Today our internet was down so all my streaming lesson-y / practice-y things weren’t available. So I goofed around on the drums for 20 minutes.

Days 50-53 of #100DaysOfPractice I’ve not forgotten. Just still squeezing in a bit of Rocksmith. Trying to not spend much evening time online (for sleep hygiene) so I forget to post.

Over on LinkedIn, the head of the Executive Secretariat of the NIH -- a central part of NIH leadership 🧪🩺-- resigned with a lettter worth reading www.linkedin.com/posts/nathan...

Days 48 & 49 of #100DaysOfPractice busy with work and too cold to walk outside so I had to squeeze in exercise bike after dinner so just brief Rocksmithing.

Day 47 of #100DaysOfPractice felt wiped after shoveling the driveway. (Snow then ice then snow.) Just ~25 minutes of Rocksmith tonight to have done something.

the single most un-american and anti-constitutional statement ever uttered by an american president

Day 46 of #100DaysOfPractice end of "10 Day Ghost Notes". Played the whole song three times through at full speed, which was maybe a bit fast for me, but like I said yesterday, I've definitely learned some and improved.

Day 45 of #100DaysOfPractice and day 9 of "10 Day Ghost Notes". Assembled the 3 variations of the ghost note groove into a verse, chorus, and bridge; then played through in song form that twice. I wouldn't put me in a band setting by any stretch, but it's clicking a lot more than was 9 days ago.

Day 44 of #100DaysOfPractice drums same as yesterday but faster. I was doing much better too. Just a 10 minute workout, so instead of fucking around on here, I did Rocksmith for 25 minutes.

Good lord. We’re having to have a full department meeting about how to avoid wrongthink in our grants and communications so we don’t trigger the racist, misogynist man babies policing our funding. “Health equity” is one of our main missions. (Opinions purely my own, yada yada.)

Day 43 of #100DaysOfPractice same pattern as yesterday, but moved the ghost notes from snare up to high tom and constant was on floor tom. I started out pretty locked in when it was just the snare and toms and got myself scrambled when adding in the kick. I need to get that right food automatic.

A quick resistance task: 1. Google Gulf of Mexico 2. “Gulf of America" is the top 3. Click on the three little dots to the right of it 4. Select "Send Feedback" 5. Click on "Gulf Of America" 6. Select "Inaccurate content" 7. Select "Incorrect" and type in "The correct name is “Gulf of Mexico"

Day 42 of #100DaysOfPractice it let me back into 10 Day Ghost Notes for day 6! Same as day 5 but tempo is sped up. I held on as best I could. Some of my ghost notes were even in time and an appropriate dynamic level to count as ghost notes.

Day 41 of #100DaysOfPractice I must've forgotten to hit "complete" on my lesson yesterday, b/c it seems to have locked me out until tomorrow. Since I was already there, I went to the songs area and tried to play along with some Beatles tracks marked "beginner". I got bits and pieces. Worth trying.

Day 40 of #100DaysOfPractice adding bass drum into the new ghost note groove. Bass on 1+3+3&. Snare on 2+4. Ghost notes are 16ths on uh of 2 + ee of 3 (either side of 3 kick). I slipped into the groove a few times, but also would forget to play the bass on 3& or something. Hey, I'm still learning.

I need to be in the kitchen chopping veggies for our soup tonight but this is my view right now:

Day 39 of #100DaysOfPractice new ghost note pattern, just on hi-hat (then ride, then floor) as 8th notes and snare again. Tried a different kit model with a less resonant floor tom but snare was too muffled. After goofed w/ various kits and just enjoyed playing grooves that felt good.
