When Trump and Musk tout how much money they're saving by gutting cancer research and Social Security services, know this: Their IRS cuts will cost $500 billion in tax revenue just this year. That's more than half the Defense budget. None of their destruction is actually about saving money.

Good reporting here. Student paper gets what the bigs have missed. White House is actually threatening to defund all of bostons major hospitals www.thecrimson.com/article/2025...

DOGE is a criminal conspiracy to defraud the people of the United States

DOGE officials engaged in a security breach from the National Labor Relations Board, likely taking data "on unions, ongoing legal cases and corporate secrets" unrelated to efficiency, and then tried to cover their tracks. If they are doing it here, no reason to assume they are not doing it elsewhere

Americans like a lot of things in theory. It’s the “in practice” that they don’t love as much. Trump has been cruel and ham handed in his execution of deportations and most voters see through that. The longer this goes on the worse these poll numbers will get.

EXCLUSIVE: A whistleblower tells Congress and NPR that DOGE may have taken sensitive labor data and hid its tracks. "None of that ... information should ever leave the agency," said a former NLRB official.

The US economy is set to lose billions of dollars in revenue in 2025 from a pullback in foreign tourism and boycotts of American products.

👀🚨JICYMI: New Quinnipiac Poll: More Americans now disapprove of Trump on immigration by 50% to 45% (including 51% independents) MAJORITY of Americans now disapprove of Trump on deportations by 53% to 42% poll.qu.edu/poll-release... cc: @schumer.senate.gov @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social l

As the government flings itself apart, we will keep coming back to the grim reality. Trump can’t be restrained, or reasoned with, or babysat for the next four years. The only way to bring power back under the rule of law is to remove a lawless man from power. www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb...

Bukele has already returned migrants to the U.S. because they were from Central America or they were women—migrants the Trump admin had unilaterally declared as “criminals.” This is all a joke to them. It’s truly sick.

Bone chilling. A court ordered Kilmar Abrego Garcia to stay in the United States. The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that he was illegally removed. Trump is pretending he won the ruling 9-0. 1/ You may not think this case means anything to you. But let me tell you why it does.

Martin O'Malley just mentioned state attorneys general filing state kidnapping charges. Just imagine the collective cheer in this country if state troopers pulled over, arrested and cuffed a van full of masked ICE fascists.

MIT following Harvard's lead here

The more powerful institutions indicate they have some semblance of a spine against the MAGA fascists, the more others will follow

We must all stand as a united front against the kidnapping and illegal detention of Kilmar Abrego Garcia in El Salvador. Senator, I am willing to join you and help Organize other members of the House to do the same. @vanhollen.senate.gov

Stephen Miller is truly one of the most craven, awful, horrifying people I have reported on in my life. It is a blight on our nation so long as he has any power.

Hey, did you know there's an alternative to ChatGPT that makes sense economically and doesn't destroy the environment? It's called English majors and they will happily fix all of your documents for the low price of health insurance and a living wage.

So, to recap: The government filed a non-responsive declaration more than an hour past the deadline. I’m gonna take a wild guess and predict that tomorrow’s hearing will be very unpleasant for one Drew Ensign…

Coinciding with it's "No" letter Harvard has refashioned its university homepage into essentially an advertisement for the social benefits of university research. This is the current front page.

important context about the concentration camps in el salvador:

BREAKING: On Friday, the federal government issued new demands of Harvard University. The university's lawyers just responded: back off.

Apparently this was the breaking point for Harvard: cluster hires for conservatives.

*taps mic* Hey Millenials! You know what we're not gonna do? We're not gonna fucking watch that new HBO Harry Potter show because R*owling is a reprehensible human/transphobe/acephobe and we're not giving her money. Okay? OKAY?! Yes, I mean *you*. Also read a different book. Hell, *write* one.

“… I want to let you know that no matter where he is in the world, he is still a resident of Prince George's County,” said Maryland AG Aisha Braveboy. "I care about him and his family. His children go to our schools. They are being raised in our communities and he should be there as their father …”

Harvard redid its whole homepage to push back against the administration’s demands. I mean, this is just a website but I think it’s kind of a great PR move: www.harvard.edu

Any Democratic politician who doesn't understand Nayib Bukele's grave offense against the sovereignty of the American people and constitutional order and say as much publicly should have no future in elected office. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/bukel...

Letter from Dem Senator Chris Van Hollen (MD) requesting a meeting with Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele To discuss MD father Kilmar Abrego Garcia's return "If Kilmar is not home by midweek – I plan to travel to El Salvador this week to check on his condition and discuss his release."

There we go. Support this man.

If the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.

BREAKING: The United Mineworkers and United Steelworkers unions are suing the Trump admin over its decision to delay enforcement of a lifesaving new silica rule meant to curb the black lung epidemic in Appalachia. My exclusive for @inthesetimesmag.bsky.social: inthesetimes.com/article/trum...

I called my senators and US rep and told them to join Van Hollen on his trip to El Salvador and bring back the people who have been wrongly imprisoned in those concentration camps. Call your reps and tell them the same thing if you feel similarly. Find your reps here: reps.fyi

lol at Matt Yglesias forgetting to switch to his sock puppet account

If Trump comes after you, and you have some resources—think law firms and universities, not foreign students disappeared for speech—then you have a moral and patriotic obligation to fight back. If nothing else, it ties up the regime’s resources. They don’t have that much. They need capitulators.

What if, purely hypothetically, Stephen Miller was the guy who ordered flights to go even in spite of Boasberg's order on March 15. What if, also hypothetically, not all the people on the third plane had deportation orders? Does Abrego Garcia even? What if there are 50 more like him?

I hope I live to see Stephen Miller handcuffed in a dock at The Hague

Your teeth should not be this hard to get care for in the richest country on Earth.

Every day I understand Dante Alighieri a little better, writing a whole ass book where he could put everyone he hated in hell.

We're in The Bad Place, folks. The existence of an overseas gulag to which you - yes, you personally - can be sent with no recourse marks the end of a whole period of American history. There's no going back after this. Even if these guys are defeated, the new order will have to look much different.

This is the the only case anywhere in the country that determines if the country falls into fascism. Either it stops here, or we fall into the abyss. There is no coming back from this. Anybody anywhere can be plucked off the street, denied all due process, and disappeared.

One of hundreds of people abducted by ICE and sold to slavery in El Salvador was a 19 year old with no criminal record in the US or Venezuela and no tattoos of any kind. An ICE kidnapper who grabbed him outside his house said, "He's not the one." The other said, "Take him anyway." So they did.

Trump admin officials who have conceded that Kilmar Abrego Garcia was erroneously removed to El Salvador: 1. Solicitor General John Sauer, in a filing at SCOTUS 2. ICE official Robert Cerna, in a sworn declaration 3. DOJ lawyer Erez Reuveni, in court filings and at a hearing

Thinkin about my favorite coal mining statistic again for no reason, that coal production peaked in 2008 and coal mining employment peaked in 1923

republicans are disappearing people under the guise of fighting antisemitism and can’t even pretend to give a fuck when a jewish governor’s house gets firebombed on passover

Columbia may have signed its own death notice. Word has it that tomorrow Columbia will announce an agreement to formal oversight by Trump. This, if true, will signal the death of Columbia as we knew it - a premier teaching and research institution. I explain it here: youtube.com/shorts/W7Rr7...
