It’s a desert to me in sports right now. I get mildly interested in March Madness but since one and done started I don’t watch much of that either. WCBB is about the same because the quality of play just isn’t great. Baseball will be welcomed as will the WNBA (at least when Caitlin Clark plays).

I went to one Thrashers game. I don’t remember much about the actual details of the game but the production, the “show” throughout the arena was incredible. The marketing folks for hockey teams do a great job with fan engagement at the game.

I did not watch it even though I did pick up on the chatter and buzz around it on ESPN. I’m not a hockey guy except for the Miracle game back in 1980.

I haven’t but now that you mention it I think I’ll plan to do it. I’ve got lots of choices fairly nearby.

A couple of observations: 1) one and done has simultaneously crushed NCAA and NBA. No built in fan base for any of these players 2) too many games in the NBA season 3) no young superstars on Chip team. Tatum-meh. Jokic- intriguing but not exciting. Edwards could be the guy of the Wolves can win

Yes. Don’t have the firepower to compete in the SEC

At this point, certainly they can. Once the season begins, there is no way to predict who plays well or gets injured. So sure they can. The Braves situation is very uncertain to me.

But Joyce, what happens if the party in charge does, in fact, disregard a court order? Who is there to enforce same? The Trump-controlled DOJ? I have low confidence. We may be in the age of banana republic in Trump’s USA.

Eagles defense completely ignored any running game threat by KC. They were in pass rush mode the entire game with only 4 rushers. When you hit and hurry Mahomes (or any QB) without blitzing, they have a problem. KC defense was good for as long as they could last. Too much D from Philly

Oops. Eagles are for real.

Chiefs for me. I’ll never bet against Mahomes

The Hawks are in this weird place. They aren’t rebuilding but they aren’t ready for championship level status either. They are a play in team right now. They got max return on Hunter with the rotation players and draft picks so they aren’t throwing in the towel for this season.

The legal system does its job in terms of checks and balances but who is going to actually enforce these judgements? Is it the DOJ? I’m concerned that aTrump controlled DOJ will simply ignore these.

I’m really torn. Emotionally, yes but I am a huge fan of the Chiefs and never was of Brady and the Patriots. Just never liked Brady or Belichik even though they are legends. If Mahomes wins Sunday, objectively I think it’s all even. 7 out of 10 for Brady is an awful impressive stat.

She is the face of women’s sports in general at this point. She’s in the rarified air of Jordan, Simone, Tiger and Serena at the moment. I do worry that she is one of one and that WBB doesn’t produce others close to her skill set. I want this growth to be long term and not fade.

Everyone was warned about this over the past 4-6 years. This is not a revelation. The voters put him in office anyway. Getting him out, as observed, is the difficult part. At least through the vote.

I think they may be a little better but the FA signings didn’t make sense. Smesko is a run and shoot 3 coach but they signed BG and Jones who are slow and don’t stretch the floor. Don’t see how this works if they both play at the same time. They have Howard and Gray though which is strong.

You are describing the way law is supposed to work and has worked in this country. I will not surprised at all if Trump ignores the rulings and instructs the DOJ not to enforce. That’s reality. We simply have to hope that some of his advisors are still real Americans.
comment in response to post
Federal judges don’t have a police force to actually enforce their rulings. It’s nothing but paper unless 1) the officials accept the rulings as is usual in our democracy 2) enforcement ultimately at the end of a gun. The DOJ (FBI, Marshalls, etc) all work for Trump now. Plus now he has immunity
comment in response to post
I’m in favor of using the legal system to fight this but Trump will ignore whatever the courts decide. The only enforcement of laws comes from the DOJ. The same DOJ which is now controlled by Trump. If we think doing things “the right way” is going to work I’m afraid we’ll be disappointed.

The Second Amendment is there for a reason.

Unfortunately I haven’t been following the Braves this off season. The one negative about the Braves approach to lock up talent for years is that if several of those players get hurt, you’re screwed. That’s exactly what happened. We’re going to have to wait it out I’m afraid

I do think AD with Kyrie may actually work. Dallas got fed up with Luka. I’m not sure why LA thinks he’ll be more professional for them. But he is still just a 25 year old “kid” so maybe Reddick can lead him to focus.

It’s basketball folks. Relax. We talk about unity and inclusion but apparently not for everyone. I don’t care who a basketball player in Indiana votes for. Is the team entertaining to watch? That’s as deep as I’m going and I am as blue as anyone.

Well done! I personally liked Sides as well but it became apparent that, at this point in her coaching career, this moment was too big for her. She’ll get another shot I’m sure.

Great take. I think the Simon family understood what they have in Clark about midway through the season and put the wheels in motion to put the team in very experienced, professional hands. We’ve seen the changes nearly overnight. Remarkable what can be done when applying the proper focus.

I can’t wait to get some of those stickers that say “Trump did this” and paste them on the gas pumps at stations just like MAGA did to Joe Biden. If the tariffs hold, gas is going up a lot.

They are ready to win a chip now. Their President and GM are laser focused. They know they have Caitlin and Aliyah on rookie contracts for 3 years so the time is now. Perfect offseason moves. They got faster, tougher and more experienced.

I agree, Barb, on one level but people voted for this guy to do exactly that. Many Americans feel that the way government operates hasn’t delivered. This is not entirely correct as you know but he’s doing what he said. People tend to vote for action when they are dissatisfied. It’s a dangerous time.

Yes! And it’s great for their game imo. Love the Fever and the W as a whole as they get accustomed to the tsunami of attention which takes a minute to navigate. And “full” court 3v3 is better than half but I’m just old I guess so much prefer 5v5. Big fan of Kate Martin btw. Wish she was in Indy.
comment in response to post
I did watch Unrivaled. Well-produced and well-financed and nice effort but it didn’t hold my interest. Btw, I’ve watched and feel the same about Men’s 3v3. It’s a game we played when we couldn’t find 10 players but I’m old fashioned so 5v5 is my preference. Great idea for the W players to get paid!

It is a true problem! I’m not a hockey fan so I force myself to watch a little basketball and lots of movies and limited series. Admittedly, I do closely follow WNBA off season news and drama after Caitlin Clark got me hooked. But yes it’s a quandary. What about the Knicks? They are good this year.
comment in response to post
Exactly. Makes things really tough

Agree! His game this year has been at a higher, all star worthy level. I think that Atlanta will struggle to put players in that game until they play at a conference championship level for a couple of years. They are close although injuries have exposed their lack of depth and now with Johnson out

Too thin, like many NBA teams.

But he went on the offensive with this and thus far the Democrats have not fired back. He’s all that you say but there needs to be a willingness to hit back or we’re going to continue to lose. This is the country that we live in now.
comment in response to post
Very surprised that any team loses that big in a playoff game. It’s funny because there were points in the game where the Commanders had opportunities to jump back into it. The Eagles are elite at causing turnovers and sucked the life out of any momentum.

He’s the x, y and z factor on a well-coached team. A Tom Brady mindset and intensity but with more tools and more creativity. We are lucky to be fans in this period of time to witness his uncanny knack for finding a way. He must win. Period. Stats mean zip to him
comment in response to post
Maybe true about the Eagles defense but I’m a Dawg and have to root for Carter, Smith, Davis, etc.
comment in response to post
Eagles and Chiefs. Not very bold predictions I’m afraid. I think the Eagles defense comes up big against Daniels and ,frankly, the Chiefs are the Chiefs. In Mahomes and Reid we trust.
comment in response to post
Should be a great addition. If they get everyone back from injuries next season they should be quite good. Thats a big “if” however.

The voices of reason started losing a long time ago. It feels like we’re past that now, unfortunately.

I do! He seems to have the same type of cool demeanor and undeniable talent. We’ll have to wait until next season to know but I’m optimistic.

I’ve felt for several years that the real revolution, whatever form it takes, will come from the left.

Appreciate the take by Joyce but who is surprised by this? We know what’s here and what’s coming. It will get worse and who is going to stop it?
comment in response to post
Yes. Intentions have been good but reality is that it’s out of control with no guardrails. It’s essentially officially evolved into the minor leagues for the NFL. Without contracts. As RG3 said, if you want a natty, it’ll cost you 20 million.
