You know when you get really thoughtful, insightful feedback from reviewers? It's so heartening😊 I wish I could chat science over a coffee with the mystery reviewer, who clearly knows interesting things. Please consider signing your reviews if you're in a career-safe place.

It is true. Just tested it myself. Google AI claims that Hungary (Ungarn) starts with H in German (which it isn’t, only true in English ) and that it is sometimes called Holland (which probably refers to the Netherlands). Nice demonstration how AI works … 😉

I miss the days when a seat on a quiet coach train gave you a good chance of a reasonably peaceful journey. Any chance we can get that back @lner.co.uk?

Hello! Who's up for some more 4D-STEM? Maybe a 2-day workshop on applications of 4D-STEM in sunny Yorkshire is just your jam? Hop over to the @royalmicrosoc.bsky.social for info, www.rms.org.uk/rms-event-ca... We look forwards to seeing you there with @bmatb.expmicromech.com @cophus.bsky.social

A perfectly reasonable and not at all alarming number of herons

A Lovely Day At The Yorkshire Coast. 20°C. Cormorants.

I mean, I got a telescope for my 7th birthday, and a make-your-own-radio kit for my 8th birthday. I guess I landed about where might've been expected 🤓🔬

Conferences are great and all, but I remain strongly in favour of taking a little sanity break to yourself during the week. Stroll up a hill in the forest, find a monk selling jam who wishes you all the best with the microscopes 🥰🥰 Brain refreshed, and tasty toast ahoy

📣With just four weeks to go, our Editors are eager to meet with you at mmc2025! The Journal of Microscopy will be on stand #528 in the Exhibition and we welcome submissions to our mmc2025 special issue which will feature papers by contributors to the meeting. www.mmc-series.org.uk/resource/cal...

If you work in #VolumeEM, we'd be very grateful if you could fill in our survey so we can better understand the computational needs of the #vEM community #BioImageAnalysis #ResearchSoftwareEngineering #ElectronMicroscopy

Excited to be heading to ISCS next week in Luxembourg, a few spaces still available for this very cool imaging science conference iscs2025.com Also pleased to be able to travel Flight free, following discussions with @markmiodownik.bsky.social and insights from @seatsixtyone.bsky.social

At times like these it's important to remember the 3 branches of science

In materials science, much of the interesting stuff happens at interfaces. Similarly, you're not getting rainbows without sun and showers.

Sure Start centres generated £2 of financial benefits for every £1 spent, study finds www.theguardian.com/education/20...

🚨 📣 Registration for #CBIAS2025 is now open! 24-25th November at the Wellcome Collection, special early bird registration rate until 20th July www.crick.ac.uk/whats-on/cri...

for you other colorblind coders out there, tired of missing the red X in your github actions logs .color-fg-danger, .fgColor-danger {color: magenta !important;} .octicon-x {color: magenta !important;} you're welcome

It’s Mary Anning’s birthday, so time to share @katebeaton.bsky.social’s brilliant cartoon again.

Please show me your pretty campuses in springtime 🐣🌱 @york.ac.uk starting us off with lots of greenery 😊

Strewth. One paper accepted, one paper submitted, and one permanent academic position confirmed in ink. I think that'll do for the week, I'm off to the pub 🍸

Today, the ERC formally adopted a decision to increase its support for researchers moving to Europe. On top of its normal grants, the ERC offers 'start-up' funding to help PIs establish laboratories / research teams in Europe. This extra funding is now x2 (up to €2 million!) europa.eu/!6Vdgmp

Nice to pop by the Edinburgh Super Resolution Imaging Consortium summer school today to talk about some of the imaging I have been doing and also cheekily plug our Early Career Symposium at mmc! @rmsearlycareer.bsky.social www.mmc-series.org.uk/meetings-fea...

‼️Programme finalised ‼️Check out the Early Career Symposium programme below 👇 🔬 #mmc2025UK
