Newsletter: Our digital lives are unregulated growth-hacked ecological disasters. The modern tech ecosystem's growth-at-all-costs mindset is actively harming billions of people, pushing them toward authoritarianism for profit. We must fight back. www.wheresyoured.at/never-forgive-them/

Reading about people wearing Keffiyeh’s and carrying Palestinian flags being attacked at the anti AfD rallies here and just validates my belieft that for many Germans FCK AFD is an aesthetic and not a choice to actually protect foreigners in Germany.

California State University (CSU) is the bedrock of public higher education in California. It's an unparalleled engine of upward mobility for the nearly 500,000 students (!) throughout the system, many of them first-gen or from minoritized groups. The faculty make this miracle possible. PAY THEM.

yet another beautiful life needlessly cut short by the war on drugs has me sad about how we treat drugs, addiction, & addicts in this country. i guess it's consistent with how vindictive & punitive our society has become in general, but i still have hope we can all build something better together.

Queens College just forced chairs to fire 26 of my colleagues, two weeks before the semester starts. They've lost health insurance and income, we've lost 79 sections and over 1600 students have lost their classes. Please help us protest! docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

It’s been 100 days, and we are still sold the lie that the war is in any way correlated with saving the hostages when the reality is the exact opposite. Ethnic cleansing combined with the sacrifice of the very people for whom the war was supposed to save. A horror.

One of my fears: AI is trained on existing clinical data and texts. Black folks are routinely and systematically given less pain relief as compared to white folks. The myth of Black folks feeling less pain is still alive and well, even among medical students (look it up). AI continues the trend.

The NYPD is trying to require reporters to have a chaperone when they report from One Police Plaza. As a comparison, credentialed reporters can roam the halls of the Pentagon without a minder. This is an attempt to stifle coverage of the cops. And it's an outrage. hellgatenyc.com/want-to-repo...

This is the frontispiece of an illegal book of harpsichord music, published in 1517 without privilege. The author, Andrea Antico is poking fun of his competitor Petrucci (shown as the monkey holding the lute) who held the monopoly and the privilege of the Republic in printing music.

Ultimately whatever happens with the potential for fascism, it should be exceedingly clear that the status quo is nothing but a presage of fascism. In other words, the only way forward is a revolution in our culture, politics, ideology, and daily lives. Otherwise we delay the inevitable.

“Given the use of AI systems in the targeting of civilians in Gaza, it’s a notable moment to make the decision to remove the words ‘military and warfare’ from OpenAI’s permissible use policy," @smw.bsky.social told @sambiddle.bsky.social. 1/🧵 theintercept.com/2024/01/12/o...

HAVING A PUNK WEEKEND ?

I wonder what my life would have been like if I didn't always have such a strong reaction to rules/norms I think are stupid.

Just read this perfectly timed joke in an old article.

This is what happens when a politician controls an organization where the experts should be in charge. While Greenblatt makes common cause with any white supremacist who backs his views on Israel, the experts in the organization are starting to dissent due to the obvious danger this puts Jews in.
