Good to hear "woke" is still alive and well, I thought Musk killed it single-handedly, lmao.

🇪🇺🇺🇦 President Zelenskyy, board your plane and leave the U.S. 🇪🇺🇺🇦 Come back home to Europe—where you are respected, where democracy stands strong, and where no one bows to dictators like Putin. America may falter, but Europe stands with Ukraine! 💙💛

They should, anyway. Who knows, Elon might meddle with Starlink to get his and Putin's way.

Well, now I finally have a valid reason to hate him, other than him being Trumps crotch goblin. (First time I heard him state anything, just for the record)

It that his new one? With the eagle facing the fasces? Symbolizing war?

Fine, I'll give credit where credit is due. I just wish more would use their wealth and influence to counteract the US and Russian oligarchs, who are currently weaking havoc. My measly pennies and votes only go so far.
comment in response to post
And this must go even harder, lmao. Go on, go look in that meme folder, see if there's anything else. So you want an example for doing something else as a person with influence, than stating the obvious online? How about using some of that money to establish the very a foundation you're speaking of.

This must hit really hard if you're dumb.

I have a problem with the ultra-wealthy, especially when they virtue signal. Wow, okay, Captian Obvious, please tell me what we already realized last November, before fucking off and accumulating even more wealth. Same with fucking Marc Cuban. They could do so much but choose to do nothing.

Put up or shut up. Your lip service won't keep you from getting devoured as one of the rich. Distribute your hoard and lead by example.

The U.S. resembling a middle school more and more each day, jfc. I'd laugh if it weren't so dire.

We are all one accident or illness away from disability, one too big bill away from poverty and one bad election from a war that could put you in the same situation as these refugees. And just one single act of an asshole away from making you and your loved ones pariahs of society.

At night you could hear people crying, and there was little to no privacy for them. I don’t work as a security guard anymore, but I often think about the people in that shelter and hope they made it and live a happy, fulfilled life somewhere in my country, as fully fledged citizens.
comment in response to post
They were constantly targeted by scammers, trying to get the little money they had. On New Year’s morning, a group of drunk men shot fireworks (rockets) into the entrance of the shelter, just to mess with the refugees. Thankfully the sneeze guard they’ve installed at my post kept me from any harm.

I had a woman have an asthma attack and one of the federal employees tell me she had to wait until after his lunch break for a refill of her inhalator. I made sure that he came out of his cushy office *right now* to give it to her.

I’ve seen people in terrible pain, having to wait hours for the physician to come by, because they used up their allowance of pain killers (Aspirin and such) that day.
comment in response to post
I had a man die of sepsis, because of the hospital sent him back to the shelter far too early. Having him stay an extra day or two would’ve been far too expensive.

So, did this guy make me see everybody else at that place seem like thieves, bullies and assholes? Of course not. It drove the point home, that for every asshole, there’s *at least* 600 people that are kind, empathetic and just wish to live a peaceful life.
comment in response to post
So he let out his frustration on everybody else in the shelter and went out only to be brought back by police after a short stay in jail. Mind you, most of his attacks were directed at his roommates and other refugees.

The last guy was the asshole. Yes, he was an absolute piece of shit. He was also in the process of being extradited, but they couldn’t move it along because of Covid.

One was an alcoholic, trying to get me into trouble in mischievous ways. But he was never aggressive or mean. Just… kind of a jokester. After a while of working there, he actually revealed himself to be a very funny and kind guy, deeply apologetic after binges, and very obviously deeply troubled.
comment in response to post
Of course, there were also other people, problematic ones. Out of those 600, there were around 4 that stuck out during that time. Two of them were friendly, but definitely needed psychiatric care, one being clinically depressed and the other schizophrenic.

Many faces would light up when they saw that I was working that day, only to look downtrodden the next, when the system moved them to another shelter/location, only allowed to bring one suitcase per person. I would have to cross out their names on a list, knowing I would never see them again.
