I do think there's a moral obligation to compete with power hungry liars, greedy scammers, the sadly confused, and the simply wrong
But is "nudging" social media consumers with pop-up windows really competition? Does it build trust? Maybe a little but it's weak sauce compared to, say, funding PBS

Also true! You don’t have to wait for or listen to or try to convince anybody. Here I’m thinking about people in my life who I do want to convince.

Yeah too true. A lot of people have effectively sorted themselves out of being influenced. But I know I’ve got friends and family members that have, e.g., mixed feelings about RFK because they distrust medical institutions, who have a libertarian cowboy streak, etc

Change happens slowly, on the scale of years. And when people change, they mostly don’t realize it. They’ll often say “No, I always believed this.” But it does happen, often after many small, trustworthy corrections from several different people. Almost never after a blow-up or getting dunked on.

Like, talking to someone who doesn’t anxiously follow the news is really, really different than posting! You have to remember that they’re probably hearing every idea you share for the first time
