Thursday's DAILY STAR: Putin's poodle #TomorrowsPapersToday

Trump, the shit deal maker, upset that Ukraine won’t agree to his shit deal. This ain’t real estate, clown.

No, Trump. You don’t get to do America First AND be leader of the free world. You can either have that cake or eat it.

Spotted over at the CJEU: a date for the judgment in Deldits, on whether the right to rectification of data under GDPR means trans people can change their sex markers

So much for literary infamy - both King John (of Robin Hood fame) and Richard III earning the indifference of the British public…

Interestingly, intimidating or retaliating against officers of the ICC is a criminal offence under UK law… www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2001/1...

I just published a list of anti-trans hate groups and organisations in the UK. ashley-nein.notion.site/19101d3e04aa...

Threatening to annex parts of the Middle East to own the libs? The US is becoming a laughing stock.

Oh wow he was defrocked for this.

you know shit’s crazy when a catholic group can condemn a nazi salute but the ADL can’t

Five things most people don't seem to understand about DeepSeek. • It's not smarter than earlier models, just trained more cheaply • It doesn't solve hallucinations or problems with reliability. Rest of post at open.substack.com/pub/garymarc...

Tried DeepSeek. Displays interesting behaviour with this question: it summarises the resolution perfectly and then deletes it all shortly after it starts speculating on whether it’s still party policy.

Trans people were warning of exactly this at least a decade ago.

looks like Mississippi is going to try to outlaw gay marriage good work you dumb LGB without the T motherfuckers You have, once again, played yourselves exactly how we told you that you would

But isn’t this just a pretext to champion the imaginary Brexit that never happened as opposed to what we actually got?

Hello (again) Bluesky !

Meta Lawyer Lemley Quits - his LinkedIn post decries ‘toxic masculinity,’ ‘Neo-Nazi madness’ Shockingly strong words & bound to make advertisers & agencies nervous [esp as Meta plans to wipe out ad agencies through AI templates for advertisers] Source: news.bloomberglaw.com/ip-law/meta-...

The Governments response.... No to an independent review. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

gotta say i am very glad that bluesky is now big enough to have these little moments of discourse it really does feel like its own ecosystem while dang twitter is just an empty mall with robots talkin to eachother while one or two conservative goofballs moan to themselves

What I dislike most about this emerging Backlash era is its ethos of pseudo-sagacious cynicism - the growing prevalence of the notion that univeralist, egalitarian, humanist values are naive liberal frippery masking a reality of violence, self-interest, ethnic difference and zero-sum group conflicts

Labour should indeed know better.

Here’s what you could have won…

The Cass Review considered by the Australian courts. www.austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/view...

I see BAILII is now actively on BlueSky. Worth a follow if you like court judgments.

Karla Sofia Gascón is all the rage - The #EmiliaPerez star — set to be the first trans woman nominated for best actress — has inspired fierce love and venomous hate. She feeds off both: bit.ly/4jenb6m

Excellent piece. I think of this as "plutocratic feudalism": in which overmighty subjects compete to control the court. Crucially, the court is weak enough to be captured (with erratic child kings, in need of money & prone to flattery), but strong enough to be a threat to them & a weapon v others.

“No Mr Elon Musk, we do not want you to buy Liverpool Football Club. Not now, not ever. From a lifelong LFC fan”

Are the gender politics underlying the modern reactionary wave obvious and relevant yet?

New The coming battle between social media and the state Behind the alignment of X and Meta with Trump is a cold business logic — and a position of weakness rather than strength By me, in todays @financialtimes.com www.ft.com/content/917c...

Facebook used to be this slightly janky website where you could vaguely keep in touch with your nan while various online stores tried to sell you Useful Things like bagpipes and shit.

New: Meta has deleted trans and nonbinary Messenger themes, as well as the blog posts announcing them. Happens the same week that it has changed its rules to allow users to say LGBTQ+ people are "mentally ill" www.404media.co/meta-deletes...

NEW: I've obtained internal Meta docs revealing an array of sample posts that are now allowed under new hate speech rules. Examples include calling children "trannies," “Jews are flat out greedier than Christians," and “immigrants are grubby, filthy pieces of shit” theintercept.com/2025/01/09/f...

Court judgment in Mousse v SNCF. You don’t need to know someone’s gender in order to sell them a rail ticket. curia.europa.eu/juris/docume...

This is the Chief Marketing Officer equivalent of pundit-brain

Kemi Badenoch asked to give any examples of when she has ever raised the issue of grooming gangs in the House of Commons, prior to this week. She can't name a single one, but says that she has talked about trans issues instead

Asked if she’d ever raised the issue of grooming gangs during her years in government, Badenoch decides to go off on one about trans people instead. Really is an odious bigot.

Car crash briefing with Kemi Badenoch spokesman in which he - Couldn't say if she'd ever raised grooming inside govt (having never mentioned it in the House) - Admitted she hasn't spoken to any survivors - Refused to condemn Elon Musk for attacks on Jess Phillips and said she's still a "fan" of his

Something I try to explain to tech peeps/investors is the danger of seeing yourself as the outcome, rather than the enabler. It leads to creating 'value' that isn't valuable to the user. It just complicates their journey to the outcome you are meant to deliver. Facebook is speed-running that. /1

Meta literally created a LGBTQ exception for calling someone mentally ill as an insult. You can't do it for any other group except LGBTQ people.

Here are some of the horrible things that you can now say on Instagram and Facebook

SPLC deliberately gutted its Hatewatch imprint. They have no full time investigative reporters working in the intelligence project, which covers the radical right. They moved the editor of Hatewatch into the comms department. Spend your money elsewhere during Trump II.

I talked to 10 current and former Meta employees about the company's surrender to the right on speech issues. All were upset. One person called the changes "a precursor to genocide" www.platformer.news/meta-fact-ch...

Meta has quietly removed major sections of its hate speech policy protecting LGBTQ people, people of color, women, immigrants, and other marginalized groups. Today’s alarming policy changes will allow anti-LGBTQ rhetoric, and cease to protect LGBTQ users from being targeted with such attacks

UK government and media looking like they're increasingly on rocky ground with ECHR judgments. UK government ignores positive obligations and media abuse of trans women is rampant. It's overdue them getting done too. www.ilga-europe.org/news/joint-s...
