TMS is delivered to the DLPFC in depression to modulate SGC activity But axons linking DLPFC and SGC are absent. How then does TMS stimulation delivered to the DLPFC modulate SGC activity? Check out Caio's work on how stimulation effects propagate in the absence of direct anatomical paths

I was just told that I have to remove “climate” from the title of an ongoing grant if I want to keep it. And publications from that grant cannot include “climate” and other forbidden words. I can’t believe I’m writing this from the United States of America. #AcademicSky

Fab new work looking at treatment relevance of psychiatric GWAS hits by @aurinaarn.bsky.social @bendfulcher.bsky.social and team!

Does technology evolve as biology? In many ways, it does. Is it continuous or occurs in bursts? By analyzing the evolution of programming languages with @svalver.bsky.social, we found the answer. Wrok started at @sfiscience.bsky.social. royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/pdf/10.1...

Not sure why @macshine.bsky.social @drbreaky.bsky.social + co are not posting more about their fantastic paper from last week: "Multiscale organization of neuronal activity unifies scale-dependent theories of brain function" www.cell.com/cell/fulltex...

OHBM has confirmed that Dec 17 is a hard deadline for abstracts.

The third edition of my textbook, Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos, was published today. You can preview the first 68 pages on Google Books, or take a look at the preface below to see what's new. The main new thing is a chapter on the Kuramoto model! Hope you enjoy it.

I've been arguing that we will be able to train foundation models on neural data from different species, because I suspect that there are sufficiently preserved motifs in neural computation across the phylgenetic tree. This paper appears to support that idea! www.cell.com/cell/abstrac... 🧠📈 🧪

In today's lecture in my nonlinear dynamics and chaos course, I tried to give intuition for where chaos comes from. It's caused by repeated stretching and folding of phase space.

Today's Nobel lecture by John Hopfield is brilliant and moving. Fascinating to hear how hard he worked at finding the right problem. And how he arrived at that fateful discovery that got many of us into neuroscience. (And how it was useful that PNAS was unreviewed!) www.youtube.com/live/lPIVl5e...

I have created a starter pack for #dream research 🧠🧪💤 go.bsky.app/DCNDUtJ I don't have a lot of contacts yet so let me know if you want to join or if I should add someone in particular!
