The VA has a huge and sophisticated research arm. This new requirement serves one purpose: to make sure researchers are towing the administration's line. Where does this stop? Do NIH officials have to start vetting all papers from NIH-funded studies?

Trump is planning on deforesting all of the old growth forests including the redwoods that are more than a thousand yrs old. There is no upside. Please call your representatives. This will not only destroy precious legally protected trees, but also our climate www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...

Fascism claims people are inherently selfish and sociopathic, but dictators bind them to create strength. So would-be authoritarians try to tear down society, and build nations of selfish sociopaths for them to rule. Russia is what happens when they succeed. Selfish, sociopathic...and weak.

Last week, CDC didn’t go along with the attempted pediatric vaccine schedule change by tweet. That’s good and important! But it probably only buys us a few more months of (very patchy) access for kids. FDA is the real power broker here. We need pushback on the proposed licensing changes.

Destroying the American national park system is heartbreaking, and makes no sense at all. The parks are revenue generators, so it's not about the money. Who is against our amazing national parks? Why???

Russell Vought, now a key figure in the DOGE, is openly challenging the constitutionality of the Impoundment Control Act of 1974. He claims the executive branch has the authority to withhold funds even after Congress has appropriated them, essentially saying the president, not Congress,

"First came mass firings disguised as efficiency reforms. Then the gutting of oversight agencies. Next, the weakening of enforcement through EOs. Now, the final step: replacing career professionals with political loyalists through ideological screening." data4democracy.substack.com/p/how-to-dis...

I don't think anyone outside of universities, pharma and biotech, independent research institutions have any idea of what is happening right now. If you haven't sounded the alarm among your friends, family and colleagues, now is the time to do it.

🤔 What other diseases spread on airplanes and are more dangerous for the unvaccinated?

Nice to see some data; awareness of cuts to science funding is high, comprehension of the likely consequences of the cuts, however, are not terrific. Suggests that the campaign to encourage scientists to write op ed pieces on the latter is a good idea.

Some of us will die well into our nineties and others will be denied access to insulin or chemotherapy or open heart surgery and will die 30 or 40 earlier…

📌International students represent 5% of higher education enrollment in the US. 📌Most of this is concentrated in graduate programs 📌They pay full tuition and contribute about 44 billion dollars to the economy every year. Scapegoating them and deporting them is a loss for the country.

Elon may be gone, but his Muskrat minions remain largely in place to carry on DOGE's mission. We'll continue to keep a close eye on them.

The #TeslaTakedown worked. Now it's time for the #PalantirPowerdown. This company is an flagrant threat to democracy and freedom.

NJ Department of Health is having nothing of RFK's baseless nonsense: "The state Health Department continues to recommend COVID-19 shots for anyone over six months old." www.njspotlightnews.org/2025/05/robe...

The Marie Antoinette memes are good, but I kind of like the terse punchiness of this. If the Dems don’t make this the highlight of their midterms, along with MTGs burgeoning net worth, they are even less on the ball than I suspect.

How bad will it be? Catastrophic. Proposed cuts to #NSF, #NIH, and #NASA will set the US R&D landscape back 25 yrs+, cause economic and job loss now, and undermine innovations to come. But, this is the WH's *proposed* budget. Speak up now before it is too late. (inflation adjusted $-s below)

🚨🚨 Friday night news drop from National Science Foundation!! 🧪 NSF just released its detailed budget request for next year: nsf-gov-resources.nsf.gov/files/00-NSF... We knew it was going to be bad...and it lives up. Guts direct NSF support for a **quarter million people** 🧵 on some highlights...

Raskin: This is a gangster state. This is not basically a legitimate government that is sometimes doing corrupt things. This is an essentially corrupt enterprise. It's like watching The Sopranos. Every day, they get up and they try to figure out how to plunder and pillage the people

This is horrific across the board but the loss of programming for PreK-12 teachers and students hurts my heart the most. 😔

BREAKING: The president's budget request just hit Congress, which could usher in a dark age for NASA space science. Congress has the final say, but you can help shape the outcome by adding your name to our global petition. This is just the start of our fight. Sign the petition: planet.ly/petition

This cost-effectiveness analysis estimates that ceasing public water fluoridation would result in “an increase in tooth decay among children of 7.5 pp and costs of approximately $9.8 billion over 5 years… costs and disproportionate harms would affect publicly insured and uninsured children.”
