Every Republican cheered when courts issued nationwide injunctions against Biden’s student loan forgiveness order. No handwringing about judicial overreach.

You guys are doing it right. I miss being with you all - sadly Frederick is too long a haul from our current place.

You said it right elsewhere in your thread that our country is built on the principle that people would behave rationally and agree to structures even when they cannot be enforced. There’s no plan for dealing with those who just decide not to follow the rules. Still, the SC is not helping.

Sure but it’s a timing issue. For something like birthright citizenship, where the government’s position is plainly unconstitutional, how many citizens will be expelled in the years it takes a case to move through the courts?

Mine is Jeff Buckley’s “Lover You Should’ve Come Over” - I can definitely sing it, but the delusion is believe it would go over well at karaoke.

Twelfth Doctor is underrated for sure.

Sometimes it takes a full complement of able seamen.

(Apologies if that was meant to be vagueskeeting - it’s been a weird day and I just got off a plane for another dang deposition.)

This is going to be a difficult situation for conservatives to spin. On the one hand, they will want to blame the protest organizers for being violent. On the other hand, this plays right into their "good guy with a gun" mythology - under other circumstances, they would be arguing that he's a hero.

Counterpoint: I have never been able to find my way anywhere. Were it not for the invention of GPS (and before that, Mapquest), I would have ended up in a ditch long ago.

If you don’t lose any cases, you aren’t taking enough risks.

I recommend the “timeline cleanse” feed. Very nice.

True, but the solution is to get money out of politics. For those decades of Democratic dominance, they were funded by strong unions and their members. So the Republicans systematically killed the unions. Democrats needed money to compete so they courted Wall Street. The problem is the money.

My condolences. For a while, I had complex Friday afternoon filings for months in a row (pre-electronic-filing) and my paralegal hated me.

That’s fair. I just want to make sure we don’t get into a “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” thing. I’m totally on board with “these guys both suck”

Elon’s not right about the bill. His complaint is that it is NOT CRUEL ENOUGH.

Does anyone even have a fax machine anymore? I have a fax number, but it's just a phone number that sends me an email scan of whatever has been faxed.

Maybe not so benign. I had a weird situation where I was two years younger than my peers through the end of grad school, and then, due to an interim failed career, was 5-8 years older than my law school classmates. I'm constantly aware of the fact that people my age are farther along than I am.

Ah yes, like all the discussion 50 years later of what Democrats could have done to prevent Watergate.

Absolutely not. Most people are very lazy and would rather listen to someone else do the work. And true crime is hot.

If you ever get (more) tired of the legal profession, I feel like you could turn this hobby into a popular Serial-style podcast.

I will not submit my personal tastes to your judgment. Well, not this time at least. This is partially because most of the stuff I actually listened to in the 90s was solid D+ material.

A year ago, I would have said that I think Israel should exist as a Jewish state, but that if non-Jews are elected (by a non-Jewish majority or otherwise), so be it. As Netanyahu has continued to act with cruelty and impunity, now I’m not sure of anything anymore.

This whole thing is going to go down as the savviest music-business move in history. Scooter Braun thought he accomplished something, and Taylor flipped it into a way to sell all those albums TWICE, and now will continue to benefit from both sets. Absolute genius.

September clearly wins the analysis here.
