When anyone who calls themselves leftist backs down from defending trans ppl they are surrendering to fascism, not only on a moral level but bc everyone can see we are one of the right's biggest targets & letting this happen bc it's "too divisive" or whatever shit it just looks like they're scawwwed

The onion always nails it but I find some of their funniest work those rare articles where they make trump this oddly lucid philosopher.

"elder scrolls" is just me looking at my phone

There are probably worse ways to name a D&D character than basing it on a medication name you thought sounded funny.

I like music that feels personal & is telling you something about the writer. My songs are very personal, I worry they’re too hidden behind metaphors. Then I remember any Bush lyrics Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow Dave's on sale again We kissy kiss in the rear view We're so bored you're to blame

Go fash lose cash

Republicans- *hired a professional yapper with a history of alcoholism as defense secretary* Defense Secretary- *Gets drunk and yaps government secrets* Republicans- HOW COULD THIS HAVE HAPPENED!?

When it comes to people with autism, particularly children, RFK Jr wants to make it easier for parents and quack doctors to "experiment" and force dangerous and unproven treatments on them. And he wants to make it harder or outright illegal to counter disinformation that harms this industry.

There are certain things you just don’t let JD Vance near: - football trophies - couches - democracy - popes, apparently

The conservative movement has turned against reality on every scientific issue of our time, from gun violence to climate change to epidemiology. If campuses are ideologically homogenous, it's not because academia has ostracized conservatives. It's because conservatives have ostracized academia.

so they're mycoblogging

it's important this go as viral as the original story for morale purposes if nothing else. despite the image they project these people are NOT unaccountable. consequences CAN be forced. focused anger and outrage MATTERS.

Q: "How do you respond to Governor Newsom?" Sen. Van Hollen: "I think Americans are tired of elected officials or politicians who are all finger to the wind...Anybody who can't stand up for the Constitution and the right of due process doesn't deserve to lead."

Personally, I think it should be front page news for at least a month if a sitting US President is using falsified evidence to try and deny due process to a man who has committed no crime, but that’s just me

The thing is, if we give up the Kilmar Abrego Garcia case, we just lose our liberty completely. This is a situation where civil society *needs* to be in a state of constant struggle because the moment we stand down we can be picked off one by one just like in the Niemoller poem.

Hard to shake the feeling that a lot of enablers are finally arriving at the "oh shit what did we do" stage of things

the thing I hate most about that rfk quote is that autistic lives have value and worth and beauty and dignity whether they are able to do the things other people do or not. no one is defined by ability or lack thereof and to frame divergence as lack is monster stuff, utterly godless

Fun fact: Even if this was credible, tattoos still don't count as due process. Just sayin'.

Recently listened to the audiobook for "Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers" by Mary Roach. It's kind of weird to be hearing quotes from Dr. Oz from back when he was just a skilled and respected cardiothoracic surgeon and neither a TV personality nor a dangerous anti-science political hack.

Holocaust survivor confronts Trump’s ICE Director. “History is NOT on your side!”

BREAKING: Juan Carlos Lopez-Gomez has been released. This is the moment he reunited with his mom.

You love to see it

"the president defied a Supreme Court ruling to return a man mistakenly sent to a gulag... and spoke of sending Americans to foreign concentration camps. This is the beginning of an American policy of state terror, and it has to be identified as such to be stopped" snyder.substack.com/p/state-terror

This, from the Holocaust Memorial Museum.

At the London Switch 2 hands on experience today, and heard something that stood out. Two staff on the Drag X Drive booth mentioned they'd been told to refer to these as "vehicles" and not wheelchairs. I got clarification they'd been told to do so.

Following up on this. They just banned a Canadian trans musician from getting a visa to tour the US. They're straight up banning trans people from entering the US. www.stereogum.com/2303977/bell...

"Abolish ICE" sounded like a radical demand to Democrats, though ICE itself only dates to 2003. Today, it should be clear to even the most deluded liberals that if you establish institutions for the sole purpose of brutalizing people, authoritarians will inevitably use them to consolidate power.

This isn't a graph of how COVID is a mass disabling event, it's a graph of how WFH is allowing disabled people back into the workforce?

The lesson for universities is you may as well fight back. You'll lose the money either way. The only question is whether you keep your dignity.

Biggest commitment to a 3 second joke I've ever seen

If this passes, the GOP clearly owns every bit of pain Trump's tariffs cause. They do now too, but at least they've left some wiggle room for deniability

Update on my social skills journey: I got so excited at work today when a coworker wanted to talk about dinosaurs that I started uncontrollably clapping. Oh yeah, I'm getting good at this.

As pretty much a textbook introvert, I've been trying to make an intentional effort to make new friends. I've gotten pretty good at asking people their names, but then often realize after the exchange has ended that I forgot to offer up mine. So, I guess I have half a social skill now.

Me- *tries to explain the stock market to my 8yo* 8yo- Bro, that just sounds like gambling. Me-… I mean, you aren’t wrong.

The left- NO FUN! ONLY REVOLUTION! *Proceeds to neither have fun nor a revolution for decades*

At this rate MAGA will only be able to afford to rent the libs.

One of the advantages to packing my lunch the night before work instead of the morning of is that sometimes I forget what I put in it and it's like I gave myself a surprise treat!

“MS-13 members such as Abrego.” This is what we lawyers call an allegation, not a fact. Another sign of the times that it’s in a brief filed in the Supreme Court by the Solicitor General of the United States.

Donald Trump and Elon Musk are disrupting a breakthrough cancer treatment so they can fund tax cuts for billionaires. Tell your friends.
