I'm no neuroscientist, but I think the deciding factor (at least partially) was when a young person has a firm grasp on long term planning and consequence management; things like that. I agree with you about taxation w/o representation, but alas; in our society it all comes down to money. Paytoplay.

So if we use brain development to determine when a person is old enough to vote, we can look at brain decay to determine when a person is too old to vote.

Obviously, there are some people in their 70s who have no touch of dementia of any kind and they would still want to vote and be pissed that they would be barred from doing so. And I bet there are 17 y/o that wish they could vote too.

Alzheimer's disease, the most common form of dementia, can start showing up in patients in their mid 60s. That could be a good starting place.
