I’m plenty happy with an Anora win for Best Picture. I enjoyed seeing it in theaters, and I’m happy to watch it again and get to cover it for the podcast, which is much more than I can say for some winners. Well deserved win. #oscars

Madison was good but Moore got robbed #oscars

So Anora is taking Best Picture right? #oscars

I can’t say I’m surprised at Brody’s win. I probably would’ve gone with Fiennes, but even if The Brutalist wasn’t for me, you can tell Brody put a lot of care into his performance #oscars

I don’t know if The Britalist would be my first choice for score but I can’t be mad at the win #oscars

Thank god I’m Still Here took best international picture. My second fave of the best picture nominees and it hasn’t gotten near the attention it deserves. #oscars

I’m ok with the Brutalist winning cinematography. Other than Nosferatu though it feels like one of the weaker categories and there are other films I would’ve liked to have seen nominated #oscars

Honestly feel like The Substance got so snubbed on sound. It was such a huge part of the horror in that film #oscars

Another slam dunk for Wicked on production design. Could not be more well deserved! That movie is an absolute confection #oscars

Happy to see Anora pick up editing. That scene where Vanya runs and leaves Ani to deal with everything is a textbook example of comedic editing. #oscars

The Substance snags Makeup! Thrilled my fave of this season is getting some love #oscars

So it’s gunna be Anora vs Conclave for best picture. In which case I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Anora. #oscars

I’m thrilled Wicked takes Costume Design. The level of thought put into them is so apparent #oscars

After watching all the Best Picture Nominees, my 2025 rankings are: 1. The Substance 2. I’m Still Here 3. Anora 4. Wicked 5. Nickel Boys 6. Conclave 7. The Brutalist 8. Dune Part 2 9. A Complete Unknown 10. Emilia Perez

Wrapped things up watching Emilia Perez this morning. I’m so confused by the critical acclaim for this film. Why is it a musical? The overall tone isn’t camp enough to pull it off. The songs aren’t good and the staging is underwhelming. The characters feel underwritten. #filmsky #EmiliaPerez

Dune Part 2: visually stunning and I liked it better than the first one but still kinda meh on it. Very one note and I just don’t find the characters compelling, but then I’ve never been able to finish the book despite trying three times #filmsky #DunePart2

A Complete Unknown: Standard meh biopic. I was underwhelmed by Chalamet’s performance. It seemed to hinge exclusively on mimicking Dylan & didn’t really give me anything else interesting for the character of Dylan in the movie. Norton stole every scene he was in. #filmsky #ACompleteUnknown

Kicked it off with Wicked. What a phenomenal adaptation. Musical numbers are great but also a lot of quieter emotional moments that really shine. Powerhouse performances from Erivo & Grande. Only reason it won’t be higher on my rankings is cause it isn’t a full story, but a part 1 #filmsky #wicked

Back in the theater watching the remaining Best Picture nominees (minus Emilia Perez, which I’ll watch at home tomorrow as I recover from today’s marathon). I’ve got Wicked, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, and Dune 2. What should I be the most excited for? #filmsky #oscars

Almost two days later and I’m still thinking about The Substance. Is this the movie that finally turns me into a horror girlie??

As of now my current 2025 Best Picture rankings are: 1. The Substance 2. I’m Still Here 3. Anora 4. Nickel Boys 5. Conclave I’ll follow up with final rankings next weekend when I watch the remaining nominees.

The Substance: Incredible. Moore and Qualley are both amazing. Everything from production design to costuming is impeccable. Was I hiding in my hoodie in horror for half of it? Yes. Was I loving every second of it? Also yes. #filmsky #TheSubstance #moviereview

Anora: A fun examination of the chaos that can be sown by the ulta wealthy on those who find themselves in their orbit. Comedy general hits and Madison is great. Didn’t quite stick the landing at the very end for me, but overall I liked it #filmsky #anora #moviereview

Nickel Boys: Appreciated inventive cinematography & sound design. Switching first person perspective didn’t always work for me but liked the way the story unfolded. Slow at first but brought it home in the end. Brandon Wilson’s performance as Turner was by far my fave part #filmsky #NickelBoys

Conclave: Fiennes was great (as always) & score was an absolute standout. Liked the thriller vibes, but the pace often dragged which I think hurt the film overall. Generally solid themes but didn’t do anything different with them. Solid but pretty standard Oscar fare #filmsky #conclave #moviereview

Just finished I’m Still Here and really loved it. Lot’s tears but loved the look of the film and was very impressed by the performances. Last act dragged a little and I think I could’ve done without it, but overall was a fan #filmsky #ImStillHere #MovieReview
