Much improved urban air quality because of electrifying a commuter train - great to see.

"Study estimated that covering all 4,000 miles of California’s exposed canals with solar panels could generate enough electricity to power about 2 million homes each year, conserve enough water to supply up to 2 million homes annually, and reduce land use by placing solar arrays on developed land."

Actual research (tech) jobs! 👇

Folks, this isn't good. Planned DOI office closures include >27% of all BIA offices (!!). USGS - which relies on field offices for things like volcano, earthquake and flood monitoring - would lose 34 sites. Given return-to-office orders this seems aimed at driving resignations and hobbling programs.

The New Mexico Reforestation Center is hiring a director. We are looking for a dynamic leader that can develop and execute a plan to establish NMRC as a leader in science-based reforestation. Please help advertise the position and reach out if you have questions. careers.nmsu.edu/jobs/dir-new...

Solid reminder that it makes no sense to map forest carbon at a higher spatial resolution than the sample plots you’re using to create the map.

Bumping this as the deadline (Feb 1) approaches - please share and apply! This is a great opportunity for a postdoc looking to do applied climate adaptation research that comes with hands-on training in actionable science. 🧪🌎

Every now and again I remind folks that I keep a curated/annotated list of writing resources - you can find it here: scientistseessquirre...

Do you want to be a climate modeler? (despite the perpetual existential panic, I still wouldn't want to do anything else...) This year's CESM tutorial applications are open... www.cesm.ucar.edu/events/tutor...

Good writers recognize that word choice is a key factor in effectively communicating your thoughts & ideas. Exhibit A:

Exciting fellowship with the USGS for graduate students on diverse knowledgr systems in climate adaptation. Just make sure your projects include Indigenous data sovereignty ! www.usgs.gov/programs/cli...

Why does hyperspectral reflectance work for tracking plant physiological dynamics? I recently wrote a commentary for @newphyt.bsky.social about that, targeted for a broad audience of plant scientists 🍃🌈🧪 nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

Trans folks built up the bluesky community from nothing and they deserve to be heard and feel safe here.
