Signal leaves Sweden if government's data storage proposal is rejected The encrypted messaging app Signal is growing – now even the Swedish Armed Forces use the app. But the government wants to force the company to introduce a technical backdoor for the Police and Säpo.

If you still believe, after today‘s UN resolution, that Trump will change his mind, just as soon as the Europeans finally spend more on defence, I can‘t help you. Of course Europe must spend more on defence. But not as a gesture to please Trump. To protect ourselves & stand on our own 2 feet.

We need an EU Defence Minister and a joint EU command. The EU should have its own military academy, appointing a single EU NATO representative. Our Rapid Deployment Capacity and Eurocorps need to become permanent. On this very day, please sign our EU army petition 🇪🇺💜🇺🇦 loom.ly/c2zBZDY

I understand the shock but it's because Europe has ignored what the US is. One of 12 countries to vote against a Gaza truce in 23 One of two countries to regularly vote against UN on access to food as human right Created a law in 2002 to invade the Netherlands if ICC went against its wishes Etc

The United States appears to be in violation of the Budapest Memorandum which disarmed Ukraine of nuclear weapons in exchange for security guarantees. The agreement signed by the US in 1994 specifically prohibits economic coercion against Ukraine.

Seems like a waste of a good asset for Europe to just take Russia’s frozen $300bn, when they could instead threaten to take it unless Russia makes concessions, highlight Russia’s refusal to make concessions, state that any concessions Russia does make are insufficient, and then take it.

If true then the US is now a genuine Russia-style mafia state. Russia extorts with energy-, the US with tech-dependence. I trust the conclusions we draw from this will also turn into a semblance of policy.

Noro. www.radiotimes.com/tv/sci-fi/do...

Some exuberance might be forgiven here, as unlike other US presidents, Trump was born on mount Paek... McKinley.

Volt’s reaction to the Paris summit. We are done waiting.

Oooh so that's what "chickens coming home to roost" means. 🧐

"You can't just say 'No' to everything"

#treatyreform

Olaf Scholz is three years late on this, and this should have said as much when he made his Zeitenwende speech in 2022. Naturally, it took him forever to develop an actual understanding of where we are as a European society and the sheer level of danger we face.

Macron was right, we should build a stronger EU defence, but we should build it oursevles, with a European defence industry, buying from the US only when there is no local alternative available.

Perhaps it's time we start referring to that rapidly disintegrating democracy as USAM - Unstable States Above Mexico.

»In contrast to Britain and Europe, American farmers are still allowed to feed cattle and other farm animals ground-up waste from other animals including birds.« I’m sure deregulation will fix this. 🤔 www.telegraph.co.uk/global-healt...

«It feels like more than just a car brand» From a Norwegian newspaper today, reflecting some serious soul-searching in a country where Tesla has had about a 20 % share of the personal car market.

PG&E? ConEdison? I just did a piece on how a small group of economists are responsible for higher electricity and gas bills, as well as the massive mal-investment and incompetence of these monopolists. It's a trillion dollar scandal hidden via accounting. www.thebignewsletter.com/p/power-move...

"Europe is often presented as this massive bureaucracy that created all these rules. Actually, it does the reverse. It has harmonised the rules of 27 countries. And that makes trade easier, provides for economic growth, gives people lower prices and higher living standards." ~AA

“Today's EO is vindictive. It is aggressive. It is a brutal step that seeks to undermine and destroy what the intl. comm. has painstakingly constructed over decades, if not centuries: global rules that are applicable to everyone and aim to deliver justice for all” www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Ljubljana mayor Zoran Janković is notoriously bad at playing defence. He sees himself as a shark and a shark always moves forward. But even so, the man did a spectacularly piss-poor job of explaining away his ass-kissing letter of support for Serbian president Aleksandar Vučić. #slovenia #serbia

I have an idea: instead of #Trump 's and Netanyahu's dreams about ethnically cleansing #Gaza, what if we make it part of a sovereign Palestinian state existing alongside Israel - with free access to sea and air, rebuilt with international support, and without any foreign ownership?

🚨🚨Major legal development regarding #Ukraine war: Yesterday senior legal experts of @ec.europa.eu , the EEAS, Council of Europe Ukraine & 37 States laid down the legal foundations for the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine. 🧵 ec.europa.eu/commission/p...

Prudish Americans protesting so much over a porn app is quite funny to me. I'm glad it's available and I don't think a gatekeeper should be deciding what kind of apps can get made. So the DSA is working perfectly in this case, thank you EU. 🇪🇺💪

Just as the US finally got around to making a rulebook for open banking and make switching easier... They decided to kill the regulator. "Musk has also called to “Delete CFPB” on his X social media platform." CFPB = Consumer Financial Protection Bureau news.bloomberglaw.com/banking-law/...

US influence and standing in the world will wane in the Trump years, empowering China. Not intentionally, but very effectively. Some examples. (Thread)

Ok, the EU shouldn’t be run by its members’ governments but as that’s how it works today, it appears unbelievable that EU-27 leaders have not met yet in 2025, notably to discuss a coordinated response to multiple attacks to the EU or at least to provide some guidance to @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu

What good is remembering the Holocaust is we learn nothing from it and just watch while Israel perpetrates another Holocaust in Palestine?

This is hope. We stand together.

Here we go again, with US presidential incompetence on full display. Trump doesn't seem to understand that: - Spain is not a member of BRICS - he won't be able to impose tariffs on Spain alone - rather than the entire EU customs union www.euractiv.com/section/poli...

Et tu, Google? www.theverge.com/2025/1/22/24...

With Gaza currently on pause, Israel seems to think that pausing the genocide would be unthinkable, so they're continuing ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, as long as they're warmed up. 🙄🤬 #holocaust2.0

Joe Biden leaves several legacies, good and bad. But the most tangible and lasting is this. It's the result of his disgraceful, enduring support for #genocide: the literal wiping of a people and their built environment off the map. Whatever else he did, this will forever be attached to his name.
