The point is all films - whether consciously or not - are in some way necessarily "political" by default, just by virtue of being made in a specific culture at a specific time and in a specific place. There's no such thing as culturally (and thus politically) neutral filmmaking - its impossible.

Criterion Channel has a gorgeous series up called Argentine Noir. Six stylish, twisty Perón-era films. I love 1950's B&W films with Expressionist lighting, social commentary and complicated psychological mayhem and these movies have it all. This still is from 1952's "The Beast Must Die". #filmnoir
