Absolutely gripped by the big businesses that reside here, strangling some efforts for poverty relief and a housing crisis. I can't really speak for NYC cost of living because it's vastly different where I am haha, lower than the nat'l average with some higher taxes

Oh yeah NY has its problems for sure. I'm in western NY and there's a really fascinating blend of politics here in the Niagara/Eerie county areas (and a lot more right leaning than the rest of the state interestingly). You could also point at George Santos as well, and Buffalo itself has been (1/2)

AND disillusionment with the democratic party and their lack of REAL working class change was a problem in the most recent election as well and definitely helped trump win 🤷🏻♀️

Not perfect by any means, but I feel like my quality of life here is a little bit better than if I lived in a red state that is subsidized by Blue states like NY and CA.

Also a good question, one could argue its a "two sides of the same coin" situation. Though in my home state of NY (a solidly blue state) I like the worker protections I get here. Employers are required to give a cost of living raise yearly based on salary, and PTO is also required based on hours.

I definitely want to research more into Tea Party's takeover of the Republican party and give myself some solace in some form of an explanation as to where and why the US went down this path

People are scared and the middle class is dying, but what trump supporters fail to see is pointing fingers at ""the woke"" isn't going to do anything. They need to realize that they are pointing fingers at the wrong group of people, while simultaneously refusing to take some personal responsibility.

I agree that Reagan era US and his policies are separate issues than 2024 politics. I semi agree that trump is not the issue, but he is a great representation of what the problem could be at its core - voters getting fooled into pointing fingers thinking everyone else is the problem.

I consider myself pretty left leaning but I totally agree that the conservative right of 25 years ago is completely different than the conservative right today. My dad says it's the Tea Party that silently infiltrated the Republican party which led to the rampant Trumpism. Def worth some study

I've been seeing a few headlines that trump and his band of buds have confirmed plans to declare a national state of emergency and use our military force for a mass deportation event. Vile
