Want to tell the public what US government workers actually do, vs. the propaganda spewed by DOGE? This incredible website, "We the Builders," is asking for first-person testimonials from government workers about their actual jobs, and how they make the government work. www.wethebuilders.org

— Accidentally fired workers trying to contain bird flu — Accidentally fired workers overseeing our nuclear stockpile — Accidentally fired workers providing health care to Native Americans “Accidentally.” More like gross incompetence and mismanagement. Opposite of efficient.

Incredibly chilling and clear-eyed piece from @frank-bowman.bsky.social spelling out the implications of Trump’s latest executive orders—which, stripped of their muddled legalese, essentially anoint him as a monarch with absolute power. slate.com/news-and-pol...

Trump is firing thousands upon thousands of VETERANS for no reason at all. These men & women put their lives on the line for our country and they do critical work, many of them serving other veterans! Trump and Musk’s reckless firing spree is beyond despicable.

Medicaid is not for sale. NASA is not for sale. The Post Office is not for sale. America is not for sale. We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

Important to start admitting that we’re living under Schrodinger’s constitution—one that is not in effect whenever it constrains Republican powers, but is in effect whenever it can be used to stymie democrats or suppress opposition.

Leave it to the Guardian to state it more plainly than most U.S. outlets. Good stuff here.

Wholesome distraction time: have been experimenting a lot with tea/tisane blending lately and I just want to note to those interested that this morning I discovered that dark roast yaupon + honeybush + turmeric + ginger is magical.

Ending the week with a little motivation from our office mural. 💙 We hope you all have a great weekend. 🦈

New: DOGE's spending has been secret. No longer. My colleagues have uncovered it. www.propublica.org/article/doge...

So if you criticize Elon Musk, Trump’s DOJ will send you this letter. Members of Congress must have the right to forcefully oppose the Trump Administration. I will not be silenced.

No, but if you’re looking for one, I am aware of a guy you work with that was indicted four times and convicted of thirty-four felonies.

The CDC has an ultra-competitive 2-year program to train "the best of the best" to lead public health labs. Most of the current class were terminated over the weekend. www.science.org/content/arti... (by @meredithwadman.bsky.social)

When I was a political blogger I got death threats for arguing such things as "free school lunches are good for kids." AND I KEPT WRITING. For years. One person who threatened me called me a screaming harpy and after that I put "winged goddess of vengeance" in my bio. I was never paid Senator money.

Tyranny requires your fear, your silence, and your compliance. Democracy requires your courage.

🗣️ @aoc.bsky.social out fighting for the people & federal workers: “Every day our job is to wake up and say ‘what can I do today?’ — There is no act too small. Every action matters.” 🇺🇸

the thing is that not a single one of those people did anything in the years since to attempt to bring down the temperature within their own party, temper their violent rhetoric, or work against a second coup. sorry you’re scared of the monster you created, but you guys all kept feeding him!

As always, @chriswarcraft.bsky.social is a real one.

Americans worry Musk's campaign to slash government could hurt services, Reuters/Ipsos poll finds www.reuters.com/world/us/ame...

"The level of access DOGE possesses means that the organization may already be able to siphon data that Musk or his agents could hold on to forever, long after his time as a government liaison, or even after a potential falling-out with the president."

This. Let’s be done with the whole “run government like a business” bs, shall we?

what abortion bans lead to - covered in depth by @propublica.org here

It’s hard to overstate how damaging this will be for Americans going forward, especially on an international basis.

Seriously. Watch MO Republican State Legislators sometime while Missouri citizens are giving testimony. They goof around in the back of the class like it's not their literal paid job to listen to their constituents.

📢 “He’s trying to steal Medicaid to enrich himself. He’s gutting NASA to line his pockets with SpaceX. He’s looting everything good in America for private profit.” - @aoc.bsky.social at today’s #SaveOurServices NYC rally. The fight isn’t over. Join us: go.savepublicservices.com

the “make america healthy again” agenda appears to be an elaborate op conjured up by sentient strains of listeria and salmonella www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/u...

why it's almost as if there's a well-funded authoritarian cabal working in global unison to dismantle democratic norms for their collective benefit by waging war on journalism, education, legal accountability, and informed consensus

NEW: The USDA acknowledged that over the weekend, it accidentally fired "several" agency employees who are working on the federal government's response to the H5N1 avian flu outbreak. The agency adds it is trying to quickly reverse the firings.

@votevets.org is going to do everything possible to help veterans and military families during these perilous times. If you are affected, please fill out this form. It *will* remain confidential. votevets.org/doge-tipline

Crockett: "It's just that they're idiots. These are the same guys as it relates to our nuclear stockpile, they're like, 'Oh, wait a minute, we needed those guys? Can we get them back? Oh, we don't know how to.' I don't know how anyone can look at this administration & feel a semblance of confidence"

I suspect we’re going to be hearing more stories about failing farmers having their land bought for cheep—it’s not a coincidence. Is this why USAID was cut—to make way for billionaires?! Watch til the end and keep an eye on national parklands too. 🧵

Professors please pull up a chair. I’ve been talking to my classes about what has been going on. I explained indirect costs to them. I talked to them about what a probationary employee is in the government. At the end of class they asked if we could talk about it more. (1/)

“There are currently four people remaining over there to do the work of 15 people. The danger to the national airspace can’t be understated." "This is a very real threat to the American flying public.” EXCLUSIVE ⤵️

Food safety chief at the FDA quits saying Trump's mass layoffs make his job "fruitless" www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

I submitted testimony against this bill and if you live in Missouri, you can too today. See Jess's thread for link.

i’m at federal plaza in downtown chicago where federal workers have walked off the job and are rallying against efforts to cut jobs and federal funds. a decent crowd for tho frigid day is chanting, “get up, get down, chicago is a union town!”

DOGE in practice: Disabled Army veteran who has 4 kids and did 3 tours overseas is fired from his job at Bronx VA hospital

I am not making this up: Republicans have introduced legislation… to increase your bank fees.

"Project 2025 approved SSA administrator steps down just 3 weeks into the administration, giving up a GS-15 career in the process, because she knew even one more week on the job would risk putting her in prison for decades" is a very good and comforting sign (Musk's touching the stove)

📌Your (our) social security information is being compromised as I type this. 📌It is one of the biggest stories in United States history, and for the life of me I don’t understand why it isn’t being treated this way. 📌Fucking sirens should be blaring. It is a full-on emergency.

AOC has them sputtering mad because she’s educating people on constitutional rights. You don’t see them freaking out at Jeffries for talking about egg prices.

Hey I've got a great idea let's get the guy best known for exploding rockets and bricked cars to create a new structure of government for us

It has not been the norm for incoming presidents to fire the Archivist of the United States. The president has the power of removal, but is required to notify Congress of his reasons, as @historians.org pointed out last week. That notification does not appear to have yet taken place. 🗃️

JUST IN: Another medical horror story in an affidavit from a USAID employee stationed overseas. Says his pregnant wife was not medevac-ed for emergency health care because of directives from DC. Took intervention of a U.S. senator to reverse — but was too late. s3.documentcloud.org/documents/25...
