I'll never get over that felony convictions can bar you from voting but not running for PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.

But this is the larger point: It really is the GOP that did this. Want a villain? His name is Mitch McConnell. Want another one? His name is John Roberts.

This is what it looks like when you've found the right person in the right place at the right moment.

The reason folks think we don’t need the EPA is because we have the EPA.

"The first truth is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself." -FDR , Message to Congress of Curbing Monopolies www.presidency.ucsb.edu/documents/me...

The Opinion column on the Post's homepage has the non-endorsement spiel followed by five different items blasting it. I don't recall seeing such an open revolt at a publication before.

“Never has there been such a chorus of officials who served a president telling the nation that under no circumstances should he be elected again.” Gift link: wapo.st/4dZaokD

next weeks are gonna be butt-clenching as hell, but even if Harris wins, the US will still be a place where half the voting population is ok with fascism and that's, ughhhhhh, fucked up

Washington Post editor-at-large Robert Kagan told @maxtani.bsky.social that he has resigned from the newspaper over its decision not to endorse a presidential candidate

Big news: For years I've been investigating Jared Kushner's business deals with foreign governments. He's masquerading as an investment manager, but the evidence I've seen makes him look like an unregistered foreign agent. Rep. Jamie Raskin and I are calling on the DOJ to appoint a special counsel.

"We must not be neutral about this."

I find myself thinking about this 2012 image produced by Mr. Fish far more than I'd like to. clowncrack.com/2016/11/16/l...

i always think about the fact that both california and texas, whose lawmakers agree on almost nothing, have chosen to keep sports betting illegal as strong evidence that this shit is way too dangerous to touch

The Biden admin finalized a rule to make it easier to cancel subscriptions, which would be the most popular thing since ice cream, and barely bothered to tell anyone about it. They should have had Biden and Harris do a press conference and told every Dem to talk about nothing else for days.

tonight Trump gave up the game when he said we go back to the alien enemies act of 1798. It allows the president to Arrest, relocate, or deport any male over the age of 14 from a foreign enemy country Target immigrants without a court hearing He’s coming for anyone he pleases.

yes, that was on purpose, it's what Republicans wanted to happen

“It’s an ambitious and highly motivated group, powered by self-interest and self-regard and unencumbered by self-doubt.” Trump is merely an empty sail waiting for the next stiff breeze, these guys are true believers- and exceedingly dangerous.

Trump's last line here - "they couldn't get me because i said it had to be peaceful" - is such a perfect encapsulation of his weaselly little method for encouraging political violence

It’s not politics; it’s irrational secular religion. www.nytimes.com/2024/10/18/o...

We're three weeks away from the election, and we have literally no idea what the business relationship with Trump Org and the Saudis/Emiratis is. No one has asked if either of the failsons (or Lara) will get a job in the White House to cash out for $2B in 4 years.

This is basic Emperor's New Clothes criteria: If you, as a reporter, can't make sense of a presidential candidate deciding to dance (slightly) to music for 40 minutes as opposed to answer questions at a Q&A event, you are part of the posse admiring his amazing clothes

Trump now says he wants U.S. citizens who oppose him politically to be “handled” by the military. This is the very definition of fascist authoritarianism — so where the hell is the U.S. media? @washingtonpost.com? @nytimes.com? PUT THIS ON YOUR FRONT PAGES! www.independent.co.uk/news/world/a...

"Trump was charged with hoarding some of America’s most secret documents in his basement. And during that entire period, he was checking in regularly with the leader of a hostile foreign country, the one who keeps helping him get elected."

For all the pundit chatter about how can Harris run as the change candidate, she's not the one subjecting us to her candidacy for the third election in a row. The status quo isn't the Biden administration, it's the era of Trump as the main character in American politics.

Okay does Bob Woodward know any other absurd things about Trump he would like to share rather than sitting on them for years until another book comes out

n the wake of DeSantis' administration ordering TV stations to remove a pro-choice ad or face potential jail time, FCC Chairwoman @jrosenworcel.bsky.social has a statement reiterating the First Amendment rights of broadcasters to air political speech, even if a governor doesn't like it.

The craziest bit about this is that Fox News viewers who are eligible for all of the additional funds that Harris talked about... won't even know about it. Because Fox News won't tell them.

[reading more than 160 pages offering new details of an extensive plot to overturn the election that unfolded in plan view and culminated in a riot] this is lawfare

And meanwhile, the U.S. Army has now confirmed that the Trump campaign lied about manhandling an Arlington employee and then attempted to cover it up by slandering her. This should be a banner headline and neither Trump nor Vance should be given a moment's peace about it from reporters.

This is interesting. Most Americans really don’t want the Electoral College and that includes quite a few Republicans.

It’s uncool and cringy in some circles to say this, but doing better than every other developed economy at managing the fallout of a global crisis means the country did a good job. The government’s policy approach was a success.

Harris is the vice president in the most pro-union administration ever, while Trump is an anti-union scab. This should have been the easiest endorsement a union could ever make, but the Teamsters couldn’t qwhite bring themselves to do it.

I once tried to file a story on a Palin visit to Haiti that included full-sentence quotes she said, and the editor made me paraphrase and cut them because he said it was unfair to show how she really talked

Emails obtained via public records requests reveal a network of Republican election officials in Georgia are coordinating on strategies to overturn the results of the 2024 elections

Democrats need to raise hell about this

The immigrants Trump and Vance are demonizing in Ohio are legal migrants who came here “the right way,” but they’re still spreading racist lies about them. The GOP pretends it still supports “legal immigration” but they absolutely do not.
