That was my experience, too. 🏭☀️🌊

Oh happy day! The COTO podcast is back! There’s no better opportunity for a boardgame old-timer like myself to both agree & argue with what I’m hearing. :-)

I have some OLD Outlook Express email files in *.dbx format that I'd like to open again. These are old PC files now copied over to my Mac. Ideal if I can import/open them somehow on a Mac, but in a pinch I have a Windows laptop I could use if that's better somehow.

My latest podcast includes an interview with Scott Alden about the recent BGG Hall of Fame, as well as an extended EsCon session report about the many Michael Schacht games we played there. boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/352...

Wow, a lot of games played in January. The big boost came from EsCon early in the month. Also some scheduled live plays online. Special shoutouts for War Story, Hellweg Westfalicus, Tower Up, Washington’s War, and St Patrick. Fun!

I'm very selective in my support of crowdfunded games. Most of the time I wait & see...or just stay away. This is different, because I like Grail Games, I like this small form factor, and I already know the game Fjords. I'm happy to back this one. 🐓💃⛵️ www.kickstarter.com/projects/gra...

Got some good games in last week, even without our official game night. A solitaire game, a couple wargames, some faves, one more Schacht, and good ol’ Fluster, requested by my wife.

Only one mission in so far, but I’m impressed by War Story Occupied France. Thought it had more going on that Choose Your Own Adventure but with a lighter touch than a wargame like Ambush. Bullseye. (I like all of these forms.) boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/40...

I love what this artist does. This one especially, because his simple depiction of the worried trans girl looks like my own daughter Sammi. She's scared, too. As am I. Love will win in the end, though I hope it can happen in our lifetimes.

Hey @elizhargrave.bsky.social , I think I learned about Robert Francis' substack from you, so you've probably already seen this. Be sure to see in the comments how the game's video is now up on YouTube, too. substack.com/@birdhistory...

Now more than ever

If you're discriminated against or arrested for being trans in Illinois, I can represent you pro bono. Email me at [email protected].

I want to go back to Robin Hood in 2025.

This was game night. Tower Up is a new OG game, recommended! Mandala has become a permanent favorite. Hues & Cues surprisingly fun, but wants more than 3 players (plays up to 10!). Whereas Isle of Skye was better with that smaller number (I’m still lukewarm on it, tho—a pain to look across table).

Fun thread! My first store (1979) was the Hobby Hut in Lodi, California. Small, skinny shop. Craft supplies like styrofoam shapes & plastic doll parts in the front, plastic plane/ship/tank/car models in the back. In between were a few hobby games like Ogre, Winter War, AD&D.

More real world nature! I'm all-in on this fishy sequel. 🐟

Today's announcement of Finspan from @stonemaiergames.com got me thinking what could be next? How about one where you collect economists...

Had a great time at EsCon in Escondido. It’s 10th year! The first half-day was all card games. Then some friends joined me to play exclusively Michael Schacht titles! Though a few others squeezed in. Along with amazing adobada tacos. 🌮

I received these games for Christmas (yea!), plus a beautiful handcrafted small cribbage board. Also my daughter got Hues & Clues, which everyone had fun playing. :)

Since BG Stats doesn’t (yet?) have an import from Brettspielwelt, I need to re-remember how to find my games-played on that platform. I’m using a mobile device. (Also Rally The Troops, but I know how to find those)

The final episode of Davecember was posted. In all, eight different boardgaming Daves, Davids, or Daveys joined me this month. Happy Holidays! boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/328...

That was a pleasantly international game night, part of what initially drew me to this hobby (after decades of coming up on blasters, broadswords, and bugbears).

Over the years I’ve had a few Daves on my podcast. Now it’s time to have more. Mini-episodes this month featuring all of them for “Davecember” ! boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/328...

Reprint of a modern classic catches my attention. But I can’t figure out what it is. Fjords?

When an aviation geek goes to the movies. ✈️

Big, big November of gaming for me, driven by BGGcon & Thanksgiving. Some hits: Smartphone, expansions for Sky Team and Targi, lots of card games, and even some wargaming

Episode 234 of my podcast is the annual BGGcon recap. Greg Pettit (a convention "every timer") joins me to recount all the games we played there. It's a whopper of an episode. boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/328...

Not too much more gaming for Thanksgiving, but we DID play a bunch of Wavelength together, which was fun. boardgamegeek.com/image/634416...

Family games for Thanksgiving! All co-op games. Today we played Similo, The Mind, and Trash Talk. Let’s see what tomorrow brings. 🦃
