A colleague asked me for this old gif. It seems apropos as the NYS legislature considers a bill on packaging that has restrictions on #toxics. I took the Ellen McArthur Fdn circular economy chart & showed that if you put toxics in... you get toxics out, over and over and over and over and over....

We just have a few weeks to go in the NYS legislative session - plenty of time for the @nyassemblymajority.bsky.social and @nysenate.bsky.social to pass bills that ban #pfas #foreverchemicals in common products most of us use daily. #pfasfreeny #nontoxicny ny1.com/nyc/all-boro...

Join us and Consumer Reports & @cleanhealthyny.bsky.social and learn how you can help get #ToxicChemicals out of #Beauty products harming people of color. Friday, May 23 at 5 PM at Bronx Community Board 12, 4101 White Plains Road in the Bronx. RSVP: action.consumerreports.org/community_co...

“Recycled” packaging? Not quite. This new Grist piece breaks down how "chemical recycling" and fuzzy math are being used to greenwash plastic. We need safer, non-toxic, reusable packaging—not more plastic and misleading claims. #SaferSolutions grist.org/accountabili...

Does no one remember the Swill Milk Scandal? 8000 babies died in New York State in one year. EIGHT THOUSAND BABIES. They don't want us to learn history. Or science. Then it's easier to get away with cutting consumer protections to increase their profit margins by selling contaminated food.

It's not just a cat door...

Post, repost, comment. Why this factual hugely beneficial result doesn’t sway our approaches in the USA is beyond me. People can’t thrive when they have noplace to lay their head, get clean, feel whole.

This is no surprise. It doesn't matter how marginally profitable to billionaires deregulation or firing public servants is, even compared to the devastating harm that causes - This administration is clearly committed to extracting everything it can for the very few who already have too much.

We're in there somewhere! #HandsOff #nofascism

Lost power and Internet this afternoon when a tree in our yard fell on the lines. Also we'll now but ...

So much for lower prices day 1.

JD Vance slams Demark for not doing enough for its citizens, when it provides universal healthcare for all of them when the US does not, and they're ranked the "Happiest Country In the World." The US ranks at the bottom of that list. America is a delusional country that got high on its own supply.

I'm stuck with Stefanik, I guess. Nothing says "I don't have a mandate" like being scared of a special election in an incredibly red district.

From NYT: E.P.A. Offers a Way to Avoid Clean-Air Rules: Send an Email, Referring to a little-known provision, it said power plants and others could write to seek exemptions to mercury and other restrictions and that “the president will make a decision.” No one I ever talked to wanted dirtier air.

Here's a bit of good news! The NYS Assembly unanimously passed Assemblymember @lindabrosenthal.bsky.social 's bill to ban #PFAS and other toxic chemicals in period products! Thank you so much, Assm. Rosenthal for pushing it across the finish line! Now we just need @governor.ny.gov to sign it!

Beyond #pesticides: the silent spread of #PFAS in agriculture: In #Belgium, "#foreverchemicals" are contaminating soil, water, and even organic farms.

I've been telling colleagues lately that I feel like a monkey banging on a keyboard with some of my tasks. Then I realized I had to explain the Infinite Monkey Theorem...

For all those people who think “the left got more radical,” this is what the evolution of the GOP has looked like over the past few years.

🌍 We cannot solve the #climate crisis while overlooking a major part of the problem — chemical production. 👇 Here are four reasons why efforts to combat climate change must also tackle #chemicals: (1/5)

This power grab is unprecedented, unbounded, and unconstitutional.

All the more reason to be glad NYS banned neonics through our "Birds and Bees Protection Act" - I hope more states take action too!

#Microplastics can cut plants' ability to photosynthesize by about one tenth. Negative impacts of decreased #photosynthesis can include lower crop yield and seafood production, and it can hamper efforts to fight climate change. #plastic #plastics 🧪

Zeldin is closing EPA EJ offices, calling addressing racial disparities and advancing equality of environmental quality "forced discrimination." The doublespeak is insane. I don't think I realized that the call to make America "great again" meant taking us not to the 1950s but instead to 1984.

Congrats to the amazing cast and crew of _Mary Poppins_ at CR High School! Great performances in all three shows. Your hard work really paid off! Special shout out to my kid, who played Miss Lark, and my partner for helping the flying Mary and Burt travel across the skies!

Another reason to avoid bottled water - #microplastics - switching from bottled water to filtered tap water could cut your intake by about 90%

Since February 26, an additional 1,322 adults (from 14,482 to 15,804) and 141 infants (from 1,541 to 1,682) have died as a consequence of a single frozen USAID program.

This says it all.

Wild primrose on the floor of an Atlantic rainforest yesterday. Today is the first day of meteorological spring. Times of warmth, light, and growing ahead. 🌏

It's our first road trip in our MachE, and clearly winter is not the ideal time. It's a different way to travel, for sure. I wish we could go 200+ miles between charges but, between winter temps and only charging to 80%, it's more like 150 miles. Anyone have tips to share?

I know it feels like a drop in the bucket. One day in a year. One unified objective on one day is only a drop…but every signal, every message, gains strength in building on previous signals. This is a step toward the overflow (overthrow) of that bucket!

Americans overwhelmingly want clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, nontoxic products, homes, and workplaces... Regardless of political party. So what do folks think will happen if Trump has his way? www.nytimes.com/2025/02/26/c...

Vital services and protections for everyday Americans are being gutted thanks to DOGE. And this is happening in exchange for renewing one of the biggest tax cuts in American history that will predominantly benefit people like...you guessed it...Elon Musk. See the problem here?

This is what House Republicans voted for tonight. Another reminder that we have socialism for the rich, harsh capitalism for the rest.
