M45, taken in November 2021. About 10.5 hours of LRGB filter data (60 sec exposures). #astrophotography @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

Good evening everyone

Hubble image shows dusty universe near Tarantula Nebula. Located in Large Magellanic Cloud, it's a major star-forming region. Cosmic dust, unlike household dust, aids planet formation, star creation, and space molecule synthesis. #Astronomy

Another reprocessing: M45, the Pleiades! 7.2 hours with my Seestar S50 🔭 , and observing only when the moon is down, brings out a lot of the faint features in the blue reflection nebulae around these well-known stars 🧪 Software: Siril 1.3.6-dev, GraXpert, GIMP

Released from Hubble a few days ago - the image shows a giant among galaxies LEDA 1313424 or, the Bullseye. A smaller blue dwarf galaxy went through the centre leaving 9 star filled rings. Like dropping a pebble into a pond! Credit: #NASA, #ESA, Imad Pasha, Pieter van Dokkum 🔭 #Space #Astronomy

This fascinating color image of the young star cluster NGC 602 (released in December 2024) uses Chandra X-ray data (red) and JWST data (various infrared colors). Combination of X-ray and infrared Reason for sharing: I just think it's beautiful

An absolute giant among galaxies. Shown in X-Ray - NGC 6872, or Condor galaxy. It is the largest known galaxy - at least 5 times the size of the Milky Way. I wonder what the night sky would look like. Image Credit: #NASA, #ESA, J. Schmidt, L. Frattare, J. Major 🔭 #Astronomy #Galaxy #Space

When Mother Nature shows off. The Aurora Borealis and the Milky Way. This was taken half way up Cairngorm mountain in the Scottish Highlands. Such a wonderful thing to see. There were people in camper vans who slept through it all 😮 Hope you’re all having a great day, stay safe.

Stars form in super-cold clouds of gas and dust. Gas clumps collide, and build mass, eventually collapsing to form stars. #NASAWebb’s view of the Serpens Nebula shows a dense cluster of newly forming stars that is about 100,000 years old. Credit: NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI. 🔭 🧪

A universe in motion seen from the International Space Station during a night pass over Earth

One Headlight. Shooting the Milky Way and having composed this image, a vehicle emerged from the fog-laden valley below. Initially annoyed, I was to delete this file. But this image has become my favourite from that night's shoot. Take-away, don't delete files in camera. #photography #milkyway

Finally tried out the Poseidon-C color camera during a rare hour of clear January sky. The Optolong L-enhance helped, since the scope was pointed south over the Toronto skyglow. I toned down the highlights enough to show the Trapezium cluster. A brooding swirl of angry nebulosity? #Astrophotography

This stunning image✨, captured at the Oukaïmeden Observatory in Morocco, showcases two supernova remnants: 🔹 SNR G179 (upper left) – A 50,000-year-old remnant, 11,000 light-years away. 🔹 Spaghetti Nebula (lower right) – A 40,000-year-old remnant, 3,000 light-years away.

JWST discovered what appears to be an extremely distant supernova. It was found in JADES field and measured at redshift 3.6, which translates to over 11.5 billion light years away. If confirmed, it'll be one of the most distant supernovae ever discovered. arxiv.org/abs/2501.055... 🔭 🧪

WR 140 has been observed before by JWST on July 2022 (pic a). The craziest thing is, by comparing it to the updated image (pic b), you can actually see the dust rings getting farther away from the star, at almost 1% the speed of light. 🔭 🧪
