legitimately, being able to calmly say "I was wrong, my bad" or "oh, I didn't know that!" when being corrected or encountering new information is an actual skill, something people have to work to develop, and the fact that so many adults are incapable of doing it is a problem

This would also explain why 2 didn't hit me as hard, because it's not really conclusive and kind of shies away from the central issues, but Ancillary Mercy doesn't. I'm not sure I loved how it ended, because it felt very sudden but also didn't address the overall conflict of the series.
