I feel like the corollary is that if the book is in first person and that's the narrator's character voice, you damn well better be able to keep up this level of nonsense the entire way for them. (and ideally hang a lampshade on it)

I think a lot about this type of writing. I think it stems from a lack of control over tone. The best parts of your favorite books are dramatic, therefore good writing has to be as dramatic as possible. It's the prose equivalent of having candy for dinner.

lrts: I always made participation a part of the class, made it clear how I tracked it, and ALSO made it clear that being wrong still counted as participating. The goal was to have people speak up and get credit, even if they couldn't come up with the right answer.

my hottest educational take is that schools should actively, non-punitively teach students how to admit when they don't know something, aren't sure or have made a mistake, with various teaching frameworks adapted to support this ideal, because people who can't admit fault are breaking the world

There’s two kinds of funny science fiction 1) put the character’s hat on top of their astronaut helmet 2) put the character’s hat on their head, inside their astronaut helmet Both are good to do. There isn’t a wrong choice.

dunning kroger effect is when yuo think youre a better grocery store than you are

Concurrently terrifying and erotic Goodnight

And done with the trilogy with Ancillary Mercy. It really feels more like a duology to me, with book 1 standing on it's own well, but 2 and 3 are really halves of the same story.

So Starship Ship 36 just detonated *before* the static fire test - fueled and waiting for the test. Looks like the top tank lets go and sets off the whole stack. It would be bad enough if it let go during the static fire test, but it just blew up. And it's cooking off the fuel tanks on the pad.

Been a little busy with non-pottery life, but we’re back! Made these baby sharks 🦈 as gifts for our classmates at the studio. Also got our kiln up and running. Can’t wait to start creating and sharing more! ~Lance #pottery #art #clay #ceramics #shark #wildlife #animalart #sculpture #ocean 🦑 🐡

LRT fun fact, the current world record holder for speedrunning getting Shiori's confession in Tokimeki Memorial not only has finished it in under an hour, but has also finished it also under an hour while blindfolded in what is an extremely rng heavy game

Hey @bsky.app @support.bsky.team love you folks but I have a request. I'm one of the larger accounts on here but I suspect that not EVERY user on this website has seen Alf’s genitals. Perhaps a tweak of the algorithm is in order. Thanks.

I think the funniest thing is that if someone is rting art of large hairy dudes it's 99% gonna be @timidkoala.bsky.social

I'm feeling pretty good about this list based on the two books on it I've read.

Hi Tiktok! So, here's why George Borges's idea for an infinite library would actually be TERRIBLE for books
