Low-dimensional axes derived from thalamocortical connectivity align with intrathalamic microstructure, functional connectivity, and structural covariance, shedding light on the multimodal organization of the human thalamus. www.nature.com/articles/s42...

Exciting news! We’re thrilled to announce that tapir Yuna gave birth to a rare and endangered Malayan tapir calf Sunday night. The newborn, covered in distinctive white spots and stripes resembling a fuzzy walking watermelon, is only the second tapir born in our 120-year history.

Amazing work from @jchrispang.bsky.social plus @alexfornito.bsky.social and team!!

We're seeking a Ph.D. student to join us on our 'Deep Microstructural Phenotyping of the Developing Adolescent Brain' Wellcome Discovery Award. A unique chance to study microstructural development with ultra-strong gradients AND ultra-high field. Please repost 🙏 www.findaphd.com/phds/project...

I am one of these NSF postdocs. NSF has frozen everyone’s access to their salaries and research stipends (that were already awarded) with no information about when they might be expected to be unfrozen. It still appears like we are expected to continue doing our work though.

Science solidarity. NSF freezing salary payments to young scientists this week.

This account is for sharing info with US scientists, both extramural and intramural to NIH, about attacks on science in the US. Education is power, and we can help advocate for science and medicine together. 💪🧪 We are a team of NIH people. Please ask us questions you might have.

This is a very thoughtful piece on rethinking sex and gender. Well worth the 8 min read. I found myself cheering out loud reading it!! 💪🏼

Excited to share my first first-author paper out now in PNAS! By comparing retinotopically-defined visual areas in macaques and humans, we found that evolutionary expansion is reflected in the size, not number, of visual areas. #neuroskyence #neuroscience www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

Utterly gorgeous work! In substance, process, and presentation. Massive congrats all !! 🤩🔥🙏🏽🎉

New preprint 📣! Excited to share the result of several years of work, led by @ellylewerissa.bsky.social & @olivieroleonardi.bsky.social, in collaboration with friends @naelnadifkasri-lab.bsky.social & Giuseppe Testa. On CHD2, a chromatin remodeller, its role in evolution & development [🧵] 🧪🧠🧫🧬

I always loved this image of Barack Obama looking at the statue of MLKJr.

Morning session, Coal Oil Point. (If anyone knows who was out there on the morning of Saturday 18th, it would be cool to get it to them.)

Never seen this footage before and can’t believe its here at a click. Coltrane in a cracking quartet on fire - recorded in 1960 as he was going through a rapid evolution in style. What a gem !!! youtube.com/watch?v=8G9m...

Looking forward to attending the upcoming OSSD meeting in June 2025! Hope to see you in Albuquerque! #OSSD2025

This was absolutely brilliant and would be happy to watch all over again….and I’m not that wild on the books.

We all know about inequalities in income & physical childcare but inequalities in cognitive load are often forgotten. This paper is on gender & the household, but there are many other cognitive load inequalities also in the office. Think of who does more mentorship link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Very good study led by @chapelmadison.bsky.social on genetic variant effects, reminding us that complex things are indeed complex. Good examples showing the impact of polygenic background. Thread + link to preprint 👇

A great reminder that investing in friendship is essential for quality of life. In healthcare, the pressure of training & frequent moves make this a challenge. Don’t wait for a perfect time. Make time to get to know colleagues with shared interests. www.bbc.com/future/artic...

📣 New Research! It took 6 years but we got there! The STADIA trial reports… What we did: Large multi-centre #RCT with 1225 children and young people with emotional difficulties referred to #CAMHS across England, followed-up for 18 months. 6 Headline findings… see below… (1/7)

We just published a thing! In this study, we provide compelling evidence that a lack of microglia during early brain development does not lead to wholesale alterations of synaptic and cellular function. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

The brain’s action-mode is created by a dedicated action-mode network (AMN) rdcu.be/d5odm. In the brain’s mode continuum, AMN sits opposite DMN’s default-mode, as yin-yang. AMN might be key in pain, apathy, Parkinson’s. New @natrevneurosci.bsky.social w/ Marc Raichle & @gordonneuro.bsky.social 🧵 ⬇️

What makes human layer 2/3 pyramidal neurons particularly complex? Cool work by @idoai.bsky.social & colleagues. Key factors: larger surface area of dendritic tree; larger dendritic tree height; greater proportion of dendritic length allocated to bifurcation branches www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
