I’m not sure how the US’ allies will respond to targeted economic sanctions against a fellow NATO member, let alone military action to occupy territory. I know how they should react: incredibly firmly to the point of reduced diplomatic relations, and prioritising new military alliance. I doubt it.

A reminder that Sadiq Khan successfully won three elections in a row by large majorities against Conservative opponents, one of whom, Shaun Bailey, was then given a seat in the House of Lords for life. Funnily enough I don't remember the Daily Mail describing that as a "reward for failure"
