Hi, BlueSky. It's Hillary. I've joined up here to help get the word out about an important election in Wisconsin tomorrow, and other ways to defend our democracy against those who think votes can be bought.

Can't remember a statement by a Chancellor that has gone down as badly, as quickly, and with almost all parts of the political spectrum, as this one

Fascinated by the different stock pictures of dogs that various outlets have gone for to illustrate this story.

We sent NHS staff into a deadly pandemic wearing bin liners. Hundreds of them died. Separated from their families for months, they worked unimaginable hours, and saw thousands drown in their bed. And these worms DARE judge them for doing something silly for 5mins to boost morale and keep sane? WTAF

📢 We’re excited to announce that NCB family member @researchip.bsky.social is the new home of the Working Together with Parents Network, which offers support for professionals working with parents with learning disabilities and learning difficulties and their children. buff.ly/41uz9C5 (1/5)

Trudeau: I want to speak first directly to the American people… your government has chosen to do this to you. Your government has chosen to put American jobs at risk. They have chosen to raise costs for American consumers on everyday essential items…

Living Assessments was one of the first projects I worked on at NCB and I’ve always been in awe of the academic’s ability to make complex research accessible and their commitment to meaningful engage experts by experience right from the start. Really excited to celebrate the project today 🌟

We’re at the @britishlibrary.bsky.social today for the first day of our events celebrating our #LivingAssessments project with @kent.ac.uk and @uniofcam.bsky.social ✨

"We can argue all day about the rights and wrongs but long story short, we're out of tuna"

"They don’t care about actual freedom and security, again, the sort Ukrainians are dying for- because there’s frenzied stuff to say about largely imagined attacks on freedom of speech which will get 100k likes on Elon’s Twitter." Perfectly put.

This is what should be on every front page right now. What's happening in the US right now is an illegal power grab by a private citizen. IT'S A COUP. It's a digital coup. It's Musk who's leading it. The consequences are terrifying. And it's coming for us next. 1/ open.substack.com/pub/broligar...

President Macron, "2 million people in Gaza" "You can't get rid of Palestinians and push them out" "They have a legitimate right to live there, to be recognised by everybody" "We have to respect the willingness of the Palestinian people to have a state"

[PICTURED: a man literally working from home]

Is this real?? Sckening - serving up people’s suffering to appease the populist Right. When will Labour learn you can’t out-Reform Reform? Instead, offer a far bolder agenda of green investment in local communities, public services in public hands, wealth taxes on super-rich, & a bit of hope FFS

I’m not sure how the US’ allies will respond to targeted economic sanctions against a fellow NATO member, let alone military action to occupy territory. I know how they should react: incredibly firmly to the point of reduced diplomatic relations, and prioritising new military alliance. I doubt it.

For self styled masters of the universe, the tech bros really are incredibly craven Exhibit #3624

No words….

The irony of the US government banning TikTok because if its alleged links to the Chinese government, when the owner of one of its own biggest social media platforms is actually IN THE US GOVERNMENT is quite something.

Such powerful words. Biden quotes Eisenhower’s ‘military industrial complex’ & then christens what’s happening as the ‘tech industrial complex’. ‘The free press is crumbling…truth is being smothered by lies’

Oligarchy in America isn’t taking shape… It’s been doing that for the last few years What it’s doing now is taking power …to eventually take everything.

Love that Tamworth's line-up includes Tom Tonks and Hayden Hollis. Literally straight out of Roy of the Rovers.

Finally deleted YouTube from my kids' tablets. Much drama but they're already over it and now seeking out content with actual narrative and purpose not to mention activities *gasps* that don't require a screen. Like leaving and deleting X, it feels like a boil has been lanced.

So as expected nothing came of the sentencing. We have all been screwed over in so many ways. Oligarchs are above the law.

todays satirical diary from @hugorifkind.bsky.social

It's Aston Villa v West Ham, which, of course, provides an opportunity to remind ourselves of David Cameron's hilarious attempt to convince us of his cast-iron football fan credentials... youtu.be/0H_vgFcs1bk?...

Take a guess…

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper criticises the previous Tory government for failing to implement any of the 20 recommendations from a 458-page, 7-year independent report into child sexual abuse which interviewed 7,000 victims, considered 2 million pages of evidence and led to 61 reports/publications

Jeff Bezos never wanted this cartoon to become public. He killed it, and as a result, pulitzer prize editorial cartoonist Ann Telnaes quit. Make sure everyone sees this cartoon.

In other news, Nigel Farage didn't bother to turn up to the debate on grooming gangs in the House of Commons just now

Boris Johnson, 2019: “awful lot of money & an awful lot of police time now goes into these historic offences...£60m I saw was being spaffed up a wall on some investigation into historic child abuse...what on earth is that going to do to protect the public now?” www.theguardian.com/politics/201...

MAY 2024: In my view, the worst moment of Sunak's campaign. A man, choked with anger and grief, tells him how his mum died alone while Downing St partied. A smiling Sunak responds that it was all for him and that's probably the first time everyone saw him on telly. 😡 ~AA #BfBviralvid

“In London, everyone is different. But that means anyone can fit in.” Beautifully put. Thank you, Paddington. ❤️

this kind of obviously biased headline is so frustrating when MSM is fighting for credibility 1) New Year’s Honours list is nominated by public not by political leaders 2) Khan has won three elections so the average Londoner clearly doesn’t think he’s a failure

A reminder that Sadiq Khan successfully won three elections in a row by large majorities against Conservative opponents, one of whom, Shaun Bailey, was then given a seat in the House of Lords for life. Funnily enough I don't remember the Daily Mail describing that as a "reward for failure"

3 more people have drowned in the Channel. I'll be on Sky News in a moment to talk about it. Again. What can I say to convince someone that we can have a policy of life at the border, instead of one of always more death?

"Probe reveals hundreds logging in from abroad..." There are over a million council staff (900k FTE). Hundreds could be abroad at any point for all sorts of reasons - including work, study, compassionate grounds, etc. This is a ludicrous non-story designed to attack public servants.

I’m sorry I posted this again but I can’t get over this is going to be into the WH again. ☠️

Nigel Farage says there's nothing wrong with Elon Musk donating to Reform UK. Here's what he said about European born, US-based billionaire George Soros donating to UK and European human rights and pro-EU groups. "This is an organised attempt... to undermine nation states, to undermine democracy".
