@agu.org Take some notes.

The AMS is temporarily opening its career services to all who need them, regardless of membership status, and offering dues waivers and meeting registration fee reductions for those impacted by job loss due to changes in the government. Read more: bit.ly/4gRiHAk

The thread you need today! Unless you don’t like spiders.

#akleg Well, this is insane. Mendenhall Glacier will get 700k visitors this year and have two staffers to manage the facilities. Good luck keeping the bathrooms clean and keeping people safe from bear encounters.

Best Jersey ever. #Canpoli #Canada #Hockey

This isn't simply DEI. That's the kind of abuse of DEI structures that in the real world a whistle lower may flag and an equity board or IG may review.

My employer's Board of Regents approved our Bachelor's of Science degree program in Climate and Atmospheric Science. This is highly needed to train weather forecasters and quantitative climate and ESS scientists. (We already have a policy focussed BA and an MS.)

“the United States is not a startup. The federal government exists to do all of the things that are definitionally not profitable, that serve the public good rather than protect investor profits. (The vast majority of startups also fail, something the United States cannot afford to do.)”

I keep thinking of the online most relevant and new-to-me thing I learned a few years ago about consensus processes that don't use voting: that they're not about getting everyone to agree on the best option (often impossible) but about converging onto an option that everyone can at least live with.

I want to see the American Geophysical Union (AGU) continue its awesome work on justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. This thread is a call to AGU and AGU members. 1/

Where are all the Dem consultants who supposedly do "comms" work at? Where's the website put together with succinct talking points, one pagers, posters that folks can easily download, print and pass out in their communities? Why aren't they doing this work PRO-BONO?

I follow French politics a lot, as many of you know. Any effort for mass layoffs of public sector employees there would create such huge strikes and marches, the level of disruption and paralysis would be biblical.

I go by a short version of my name that is listed equally by men and women. And I'm in a male dominated field. Having my pronouns in my email .sig has cut down on being mistaken for a man and addressed as such.

Oh, he's not "making decisions". He just, by the force if his personality, inspires the OPM to make that wretched "buyout" offer and the department heads to fire all employees who are in a probationary period.

In 1988, the FAA required new aircraft seats to withstand 16x the force of gravity — 16g. It is likely that because of that decision, in part, that everyone survived today's Delta crash. As @PeterGoelz said tonight it was an instance "where a government regulation saved lives."

Fired Department of Labor IG Larry Turner found $191B in improper COVID unemployment payments, much of it fraud, and was hunting down $135B more when he was fired. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

AI trash.

It’s a shame to see Sci-Hub falling for web3 hype and adding a pumpfun memecoin ticker to their webpage. Blockchain-based DNS does not automatically mean “decentralized”, and 3DNS — the company behind .box — is based in the US and would be subject to US court orders.

Here is my Federal Employment Termination story:

The *only* way I can see this topic usefully explored in a news media feature us if someone waited into an advice column and gets thoroughly set right by the advice giver. Because this isn't hard. You date people who appeal to you in their multifaceted individuality ...

Happy Elizabeth Peratrovich Day! Ḵaax̱gal.aat (1911–1958), who was Raven of the Tlingit Lukaax.ádi clan, gave a moving speech that is believed to be a large reason the first civil rights bill for Alaska Natives was passed in 1945. Read more about her here: archives.alaska.gov/education/pe...

Keith Haring died of AIDS aged 31 on 16 Feb 1990. One of his last works, Unfinished Painting, was deliberately incomplete, reflecting the devastating, unquantifiable loss to the arts due to AIDS. #LGBTplusHistoryMonth
