Free borsch for all the day after (1) putin kicks the bucket; (2) Trump is out of the White House (again). Because the best borsch is yesterday's borsch.

Yes and. Azov hasn't been Nazi-inflected for a very long time. english.nv.ua/nation/photo... (I know the change is not the point of the thread, but given the russian drive to call Ukrainians Nazis is now aided and abated by the US, I think updating this perception is important)

He ***purports*** to ban "illegal" protests.

She also said the staff of the cancelled shows are not guaranteed jobs and have to reapply. She is very protective of her staff. If she goes with no plans and guarantees, they're out of a job.

Your job as a journalist is to describe things in a way that clearly explains what happened and why it matters. How is this journalism? What does this clarify? Why was the gesture “provocative” or “controversial”? Might it be because it is identical to the Sieg Heil salute used by the Nazis?

And did he just imply that the average age of puberty in girls is 6-7 now? What an absolute tool!

…arrived here without the benefit of a resettlement program. One would think that Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a Cuban American, would be familiar with the phenomenon. Branding all undocumented immigrants as “acting in defiance of law” is an ugly & inaccurate portrayal to advance a thin argument.

This genre of supplication is known as "Comrade Stalin, there's been a terrible mistake." It has worked precisely zero times, in the original Russian or otherwise.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, keep spamming about "Nazi Ukraine" in the comments—I’d love to see how many countries today can boast this level of interfaith and interethnic unity.

So Trump is mad that CFPB went after an openly racist company that wanted to open a giant loophole to enable more racial discrimination against potentially millions of borrowers.

We all knew that attacking trans people doesn’t defend women but I think it’s important to highlight how brazen the lie is, that in fact attacking trans women is becoming a vehicle for attacking all women, as trans women said it would be.

It's nice to see some timely activity from the congressional Dems. Curious as to whether further escalation was possible. Getting DC cops to arrest folks unlawfully barring Congressional access to a government agency maybe, followed by walking in with cameras?

This book was extremely clarifying when I first read it. Fusion politics-- having each other's backs. Thinking I should reread sooner than later. www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/250729...

Got through to the DC office way too easily. They've only had 4 calls today. This is Lynch (MA). Need a lot more calls.

Is the auto-connector not working? Should I call directly? I've been on the "your phone will be finishing shortly" page for a couple of hours. I am happy to dial directly instead. Lovato office or DC?

Populist radical-right parties are exploiting declining confidence in democratic institutions, drawing on misinformation to destabilize mainstream politics. Misinformation and radical-right populism must be understood as inextricable and synergistic—two expressions of the same political moment. 6/

Not sure whether this is helpful, but my daughter saw it and liked it a lot. Only one of her ggrandparents survived a ghetto. Others fought in the war or were evacuated. She never meaningfully met any of them but did grow up with the stories. I have not yet seen it but plan to.

"Holy, holy, holy" is straight out of Jewish liturgy (it's in the central prayer sequence of the service) and it comes from Isaiah. Why is it currently attributed to a single point of entry into Christianity?

Trump is going after Ukraine aid hard--and letting Putin know. As always, there are no more foolish people than those who claimed to support Ukraine and Trump.

The death toll in Mariupol alone is expected to be 25K- 75K, and possibly higher. It's really weird to be trying for equivalency, moral or otherwise, to that. Please stop. www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontli...

Very definitely not comedy hour. Russia is carrying out a genocidal war of aggression, literally erasing Ukrainian cities from the face of the Earth as we speak. Pretending US is even a little bit equivalent is rather a stretch. Have a nice day.

Nice try. US has not been deliberately attacking civilians, including by double-tapping. www.theguardian.com/world/2020/m...

Russia actively bombed civilian targets in anti-Assad areas.

Ukraine number is not accurate because the number of children killed in Mariupol is not currently known. But with the estimated total number of civilians exterminated there in at least high tens of thousands...

I love this table. Use it in every course I get a chance to.
