Huh, TIL. Always figured it was either something to do with climate, or completely arbitrary.

That in itself isn’t terrible; I wouldn’t be outraged if a health minister went on to work in the health sector. Especially if they’d been working in the sector before entering politics. It depends on what kind of position they take, surely? I’d hope they’re not becoming lobbyists, for example.

Our 2023 research addressing the issue that this is not a trade off but on the same spectrum: "The idea that focusing on climate security means drawing resources away from other security challenges is a false dichotomy. These policy areas are directly connected" www.chathamhouse.org/2023/07/prep...

I can't think of any reason to have any more than 1000km/620mi in a passenger vehicle. In something that tows then sure, more is good. But otherwise? Nah, no need, and instead of adding more and more range, how about we use less batteries to drop the material footprint and vehicle weight?

You guys are using the discover feed? So many other topical feeds out there for content I’d actually like to discover, not sure why I’d ever use a black box of a feed.

The article continues about new companies succeeding in the space. Why would we rely on private companies to achieve this?! That will guarantee failure. I want an EU-wide interoperable network of well-funded services, not some mish mash of private companies cutting costs to maximise profit.

The article talks about solutions needing to come at the EU level (instead of national level), which makes sense. But how will that happen when the EU is trying to achieve ‘liberalisation’ of the train market? That is antithetical to what’s needed in order to provide an EU-wide train service.

Noisy as hell, terrible suspension/stabilisation, and a too-thin mattress. So the entire ride was uncomfortable, and sleep was hard to come by. Which contradicts the entire point of the train, the whole point is to arrive rested. And don’t even get me started on the smaller-than-airplane toilets.

Do offsets count towards this? And consumptive emissions?

Off-topic but how did you post in italics?

Those are surprisingly low numbers for electric trucks, would have assumed it’s far higher. How do those numbers compare to ICE truck sales?
