“A Busy, Busy Day at the Airport” By Ruben Bolling Genius. Click in.

Lyft driver picked me up from UNC, turned out he was a medicinal chemistry post-doc in a building near mine, until his grant got cut last month. Worked on novel antivirals.

Never change, Penzeys

"She was also Gaza’s youngest influencer, offering practical survival tips for daily life under bombardment, such as advice on how to cook with improvised methods when there was no gas. 'I try to bring a bit of joy to the other children so that they can forget the war. '”

can’t say tariffs are hurting the economy can’t measure the effect

He missed the deadline to submit a single form 10 years ago, amidst family grief when his wife suffered a stillbirth. He did nothing illegal. Paid his taxes, completed citizenship documentation. But once you activate a police state, they don't care about individual circumstances.

This is absolutely terrible news. With the shifting regulatory climate (i.e., antivax ratfuckery), Moderna has withdrawn their application for their eagerly anticipated COVID-flu combo vaccine. This vaccine offered better protection than getting each shot separately. h/t @merz.bsky.social

This is just a partial glimpse of the destruction of American science by Trump and the GOP.

Cato has published my comprehensive review of the ~240 Venezuelans the US government renditioned 2 months ago to Salvador’s notorious prison. We identified FIFTY who came legally, never violated any immigration law, but are imprisoned at the US government’s request and at US taxpayer expense.

New Facebook/Instagram 2020 research results www.nber.org/papers/w33818: -"most presidential ads [on Facebook and Instagram] were targeted toward parties’ own supporters and that fundraising ads were most common" -no effects of removal on a variety of preregistered outcomes

“The law, in its majestic equality, forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal their bread.” Anatole France “Our nation's civil rights laws benefit all Americans, not just a select few." — Harmeet Dhillon

this is a letter to the editor from a high school track runner who came in second to a trans girl in a race. her state house rep in maine started talking about it. so she wrote this: www.pressherald.com/2025/05/14/r...

I’m reliably told this is cutting edge research with lots of commercial and defense applications that no one in their right mind would shutter.

this is incredibly embarrassing

The CEO of Suntory, a top-five beverage-alcohol conglomerate globally, said something similar last month. Not quite as explicit, but same sentiment. If firms can't rely on the US government to uphold its end of bargains, why *wouldn't* they look elsewhere to do business?

Remember that several people asked Pam Bondi during confirmation SPECIFICALLY what she would do on matters pertaining to Qatar (which she did not disclose) or GEO (pertinent to the Baraka arrest). She said she'd consult top career lawyer at DOJ abt recusal. Then she fired that lawyer.

Today I learned that the author of this 1977 op-ed was the most important college mentor for the current head of the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division.

I’m sorry, what now?

staffers are still cleaning up the Kristi Noem mess after she got gutted/filleted by @chrismurphyct.bsky.social this is A MOMENT. #MustWatch 🧢 @trumpfile.org

It sounds like the US government is ending collection of data about sea ice. nsidc.org/data/user-re...

Deeply saddened that the ENTIRE TEAM at NCI PDQ Cancer Information has been eliminated. Our evidence-based summaries were updated throughout the year with the latest research and supported informed decision making between clinicians & patients with cancer across the US. 🇺🇸

After serving more than 130 million total meals and 26 million loaves of bread over the past 18 months, World Central Kitchen no longer has the supplies to cook meals or bake bread in Gaza. #ChefsForGaza (1/5)

1/ The US government has ordered the Swedish city of Stockholm to end its diversity, inclusivity and equality (DEI) programmes within 10 days. The city authorities say the demand is "bizarre" and they won't be complying. ⬇️

Great article that encapsulates everything wrong or stupid about Trump's tariffs. This excerpt in particular drills down into the inevitable, catastrophic results of his policies. Worth the read.

One of grants frozen at Cornell: $6.7M (4 yrs) to develop heart pumps for babies born w/ heart defects. It took decades of work to get to point of prepping device for in-human clinical trials. No private company could do this. The cruelty of the Trump administration is heartbreaking. So to speak.

Fascinating. I'd LOVE to see the flight manifest for Flight 6122 was. That's the third flight, which the government claims had only people with final orders of removal, not anyone subject to the Alien Enemies Act. With this information, we could actually find out whether they are telling the truth.

During the Second World War, Veronica Foster became famous as Ronnie The Bren Gun Girl. Her image was used to encourage women to work in factories to support the war effort. She also inspired the creation of the American Rosie the Riveter. This is her story. 🧵1/10

Oh wow. Note: This response (below, which is real) to Trump’s tweet depicting himself as pope is from the New York State Catholic Bishops, who represent the collective bishops of the state. Among them is Cardinal Dolan of NYC, who Trump appointed to his new religious liberty commission this week.

From a hydrologic risk perspective, these new mass cuts at USGS would further compound broadening NOAA National Weather Service personnel/capability losses when it comes to quantifying and predicting real-time flood risk (among other things).

Honestly this is just incredible content.

Just to be clear, this is a violation of the fundamental ethical principle in clinical trial design called "equipoise." Equipoise means that no-one is exposed to excess risk just to test the therapy. That's specifically *why* vaccine trials don't use placebo arms. Ethical violation as POLICY.

RFK during Wednesday's cabinet meeting: "During the Biden administration HHS became a collaborator in child trafficking for sex and for slavery. And we have ended that and we are very aggressively going out and trying to find these children, 300,000 children that were lost by the Biden admin.”

RFK Jr. ordered the NIH’s Integrated Research Facility in Frederick to stop all research on serious infectious diseases yesterday at 5:00 PM. They study pathogens like Ebola there. You may be familiar with it from The Hot Zone. www.wired.com/story/hhs-ni...

1/ OK, kids, let's do some math. Here Bondi claims 3,400 kilos of fentanyl have been seized in Trump's first 100 days. That's great. The more fentanyl getting seized the better. But Republicans weren't celebrating this when Biden was president.

Trump: "Maybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30"

Congress says it's antisemitic to say Jesus wouldn't approve of killing Palestinian children but not antisemitic to say Jews killed Jesus

Two former Wells Fargo executives were fined $8.5M by the Biden administration for covering up the bank's infamous fake account scandal. Trump just slashed those fines to a paltry $150,000 after Wells Fargo gave $1M to his inauguration. See how this works?

personally would like to see every store show what part of the price increase is due to tariffs bc if these tariffs ever come down, i need to see that price go right back down

It's pretty funny that Trump has engineered a geo-political game of chicken between two societies - the US and China - where the winner will be the society most willing to withstand economic pain and inconveience in furtherance of some future national collective goal. Not really a US strong suit!
