The House is proposing $880 billion in cuts to Medicaid this week. This explains is how an arbitrarily imposed federal cap to Medicaid would devastate the health and well-being of millions of our nation's children.

New from my team at the @brennancenter.bsky.social on the disastrous effects the SAVE Act would have on American elections. The short version? The way tens of millions of Americans interact with elections would be totally upended 🧵 www.brennancenter.org/our-work/ana...

Tennessee's priorities are off when tax refunds prevail over feeding children | @davidplazas - The Tennessean buff.ly/4hZT6X0 “What kind of state is Tennessee that it approves $1.5 billion in corporate tax refunds but won’t accept a $75 million federal grant to feed hungry children?”

Children need your help NOW! Hours after Trump promised not to cut Medicaid, he supported the House budget proposal, which cuts Medicaid by as much as $880 billion and threaten the health of over 40% of children in this country. Please demand that Congress protect the health of children.

So: 1. Some people who took the deferred resignation program were fired. 2. Some people who were fired are now being rehired. This just underlines how chaotic the process is. They don't care about the damage they are doing. www.govexec.com/workforce/20...

Professor Mike Ramsey, a conservative originalist who has forgotten more about birthright citizenship than maybe a handful of people will ever know, absolutely devastates Wurman and Barnett’s misreading of primary sources. originalismblog.typepad.com/the-original...

If not for 4 federal judges who ruled Trump’s Executive Order to gut birthright citizenship to be unconstitutional, EVERY BABY in the U.S. would have been born in legal limbo. Nobody knows the rules, forms, bureaucrats, or process needed. It would have been an absolute unconstitutional disaster.

Saw Trump's post on birthright citizenship and had to respond. Here I point out just how wrong it all is and how he is targeting one group for immense harm: BABIES. Born Equal: Defending the Constitution’s Fourteenth Amendment for Every Baby

This is where we are now: An elementary school at Fort Campbell has removed all books from its library that so much as *allude* to slavery or the civil rights movement. The wholesale erasure of history in real time.

In The Privateers I explain how the “over- regulation” excuse developed to explain disastrous voucher results in Louisiana, Indiana, Ohio and DC over the past decade. In a nutshell: the voucher lobby doubled down on voucher schools—not parents—choosing the students.

Parents of children with special needs should be concerned. Over 7 million students receiving special education services under (IDEA) Individuals with Disabilities Education Act would lose additional oversight, including occupational and speech therapy, if the Department of Education is shuttered

We have seen this before, right?

A three-week blitzkrieg of federal budget actions by President Donald Trump is fueling a level of budget uncertainty and angst among Maryland officials - and making talk of a special session on the budget "less and less theoretical." marylandmatters.org/2025/02/11/b...

There are choices made and choices to be made. The @KamalaHarris Day 1 priority was a Child Tax Credit of $6,000 for newborns, $3,600 for kids 1-6 and $3,000 for kids up to age 18. From Trump, we got a Day 1 executive order that sought to eliminate birthright citizenship and target harm to BABIES.

The House proposed $880 billion in cuts to Medicaid today. If past is prologue, children will absorb the brunt of these proposed cuts. (1)

If you're wondering why Trump, Musk, and Vance are attacking the judiciary👇

I’m glad the courts are blocking this illegal cut for now but this still leaves researchers in limbo. Trump and Musk must stop their chaos.

Great piece by @jcbeckerecon.bsky.social explaining the disturbing outcomes to children in Argentina from its president's attack on programs of importance to them. This is timely in light of the budget proposals by the Trump Admin and congressional budget to slash children's programs here.

Just to say the quiet part out loud, the point of having unelected judges in a democracy is so that *whether* acts of state are “legitimate” can be decided by someone other than the people who are undertaking them. Vermeule knows this, of course. So does Vance.

New — The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) was told this week by DOJ that they'd lose their funding if the org didn't remove any mentions of LGBTQIA+ issues from their public materials, I've learned. Staff were told they need to deadname trans kids in their reports to comply.
