Former NWS met, currently involved in state air quality work (who knows for how long). Read the same cyberpunk novels the tech bros did. Reached different conclusions.

Interesting comparison between Elmo's must reply email to all feds and his actions at Twitter. Tech bros aren't sending us their best. (Need to click on the post to see the relevant quotes from the book "Character Limit" (about the Twitter takeover))

💥The Netherlands' largest pension fund, has sold its shares in Tesla, Meta, and Alphabet (Google). The fund with US $569 billion equivolent in assets is "directing more money to companies and projects that help to improve society and the environment." #Divest www.reuters.com/markets/euro...

Putting a face to what you read in the news. Until last Friday, I served our nation working as a Research Ecologist with the US Geological Survey (USGS). As a federal scientist, I provided robust, defensible information to support good decisions in natural resource management.

"North Carolina senator Thom Tillis told people that the FBI warned him about 'credible death threats' when he was considering voting against Pete Hegseth’s nomination for defense secretary... "Tillis ultimately provided the crucial 50th vote to confirm." www.vanityfair.com/news/story/t...

When I was 15 I called everything gay and then one of my friends pulled me aside and was like "hey when you do that you sound like an asshole and I don't think you want to be that kind of person" and she was right so I stopped.

Elon Musk recently posted on his site that another lawyer and I are “undermining civilization.” He goes on to ask if we suffered childhood trauma and concludes by suggesting we are suffering from “generational trauma.” This is my response. www.democracydocket.com/opinion/my-o...

The DOGE firings have nothing to do with “efficiency” or “cutting waste.” They’re a direct push to weaken federal agencies perceived as liberal. This was evident from the start, and now the data confirms it: targeted agencies overwhelmingly those seen as more left-leaning. 🧵⬇️

New—Social Security Administration (SSA) Commissioner stepped down bc she wouldn't comply w/ DOGE. Lower-level staffer Leland Dudek replaced her. In a now-deleted LinkedIn post (pre-promotion) shared w/ me, he said he was placed on admin leave bc he "circumvented the chain of command" to help DOGE.

That tracks.

Over at EPA, new administrator Lee Zeldin is trying to "claw back" $20 billion that the agency has already dispersed. In other words, the government gave the money to private parties, and now it's going to steal the money back. It is straightforwardly illegal.

It isn't just renewables; inflation is hitting all energy infrastructure. Duke just proposed building 2 gas-fired power plants in Indiana by 2030 for $3.3 bln, a stunning $2236/kw. For comparison, a facility in MI came on in '22 at $1000/kw and another in IL in '23 at $1083/kw.

It takes over 25 ¶¶ before WaPo explains why Trump is failing to meet the deportation numbers he promised: Stephen Miller lied about the number of criminal aliens in the US to fearmonger and get Trump elected. www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/...

For those new here, I spent last year writing for @newrepublic.com about an extremist tech ideology. It calls for tech elites to control governments and/or create new ones. It seeks to dismantle nations and destroy democracy. Some call it the "Network State," and it may now seem familiar to you 🧵

👀 "If no lawyer within earshot of the President is willing to give him that advice, then I expect you will eventually find someone who is enough of a fool, or enough of a coward, to file your motion. But it was never going to be me." -- AUSA Hagan Scotten, SDNY.

This comment on r/fednews really stood out to me. Trump and Musk want people to think they're firing do-nothing "bureaucrats," but they're really getting rid of people dedicated to serving this country and keeping it operational. I hope these stories get told.

Probationary layoffs hitting USGS, NOAA and NPS soon, per source at DOI

Holy Shit. They're burning through people pretty fast now. After Sassoon refused/resigned, the next two people - heads of Public Integrity Section (DC) and the Criminal Division also refused/resigned. This all JUST happened. And these are all 'actings', so they're people the Trump crew chose.

When Trump was sworn in, Elon Musk's corporations were under more than 32 investigations conducted by at least 11 federal agencies. Most of the cases are now closed or likely to be closed soon, and the federal agencies are being defanged by DOGE. Funny how that works, huh?

JUST IN: The remaining employees at the General Services Administration are being warned that their work will be heavily monitored, from their swipes into the office to what they type on their computers.

JUST IN: Federal judges orders HHS, CDC, and FDA to restore “by no later than 11:59 pm” today their websites and datasets to pre-January 30th status. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Just confirmed minutes ago: Elizabeth Warren will be joining us tomorrow at the CFPB. Details below. Please come if you can, and please do register because it helps with planning for crowd size. www.mobilize.us/indivisible/...

I'm less into the Super Bowl than many of you so when the guy at the bodega says unprompted "enjoy the game!" I choose to assume that he means the great game of life, of romance, of human existence. C'est la belle vie!

this is the sort of thing you post when you’re ramping up to defying lawful court orders

Purging dissent in the security services and giving loyalists power is something we *instantly* recognize in other contexts.

Reports of yet another battery project on the rocks: Freyr Battery is canceling plans for its $2.6B gigafactory in Georgia, which promised 723 jobs and 34 GWh of annual battery manufacturing capacity. This project did not have a DOE loan. www.atlantanewsfirst.com/2025/02/06/f... 🔌💡 🔌🚗

Why are no Democrat senators placing a blanket hold on any DOE or EPA nominees until the agencies confirm that payments of contractually obligated grants and loans are resuming under regular process? Why would Democrats let any of these people be confirmed under current circumstances?

Now the whole country gets the experience of what it's like when private equity buys the place you work

Here's the WIRED piece from 1AM, reporting that -- contrary to White House claims -- a 25-year-old Musk lackey has obtained direct access to Treasury Department systems responsible for nearly all payments made by the US government: www.wired.com/story/elon-m...
