Seems like I always start noticing them around the time I’m feeling sad about chanterelles and other fall mushrooms tapering off and they cheer me up!

Same. Dog people behavior became so much more infuriating for me when I had kids… giant dog knocks my kid to the ground and half the time the owner has a comment like "it's ok, she's friendly! Just excited!" Kid is clearly scared. How do you think this is ok?

Absolutely! Those are the extremes, though, and the vast majority land somewhere in the "uninteresting" to "mild GI distress" range. It tracks!

Well now I need to hear your answer! I've been sitting here for 10 minutes trying to figure out how I might apply my amateur knowledge of fungi taxonomy to software engineering and I only have terrible ideas.
