You know I never did get around to looking up where Signal's funding comes from, and it's genuinely hilarious.

The day I decided that you know what I don't actually need to print photos at home and swapped my Hot Piss for a Brother colour duplex laser was a notable turning point in my life.

I was so happy when I refreshed to a MBP that had a SD reader back again. Still dongletastic when without a monitor providing a slew of ports.

One of the gifts that didn’t make the cut was “deafening 56k modem handshake” :)

Hearing your sighs and exasperation might be worth the patreon alone!

I admit that Sky did a good job with the boxes on UI on the whole (underlying OS is a project I work on, so maybe I'm biased), but I do think their pricing can be described as predatory at best.

And Sky very clearly know this!

Even our LG tv has enough smarts to record if you put a USB stick in, and will do the Freeview Play thing where you can click a program in the guide and it will switch to the right streaming app. This is a solved problem! 🤯

I'm losing track of the number of family members who moan about paying ~100 quid a month for Sky but refuse to switch to eg FreeSat because they're scared of losing the ability to series record and pause live TV, even though they knew about iPlayer etc. Mindblown.

Friends don't let friends use OpenOffice. blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2020/10... has more but the tl;dr is "since 2014, Apache OpenOffice hasn’t had a single major release".

Absolutely glad I didn't just slam words together, thanks very much!

It's hopefully a really trivial thing: if I wanted to name a group the Society of the Strange Divers, the words are Kowethas Koynt Sedher. But what order and what glue words? Bonus points for making it sound occult. :) Thanks!

Right, my uninformed hunch was that History might have more gravitas with certain universities, and his is C20 Russian I believe. But having an out-of-class interest in the subject will definitely make some bits easier. It's a good question with no correct answer, I feel.

My son is panic-dithering whether to flip his History to Politics for September (alongside Economics and Maths). Last week his bedtime reading was the Green's manifesto, so maybe he should!

I know there's millions of that clock in the UK but it would be amazing if you got it from BHF a few years ago
