Full article is very interesting. Unintended consequences........

French Senator Claude Malhuret: "Washington has become Nero’s court, with an incendiary emperor, submissive courtiers and a jester high on ketamine... We were at war with a dictator, we are now at war with a dictator backed by a traitor."

Away from the doom and gloom six immaculate CDs for £2 in a charity shop. Gave them a fiver, still bargainous. Von Karajan, DG, Berlin Phil. Naim turned up to 11. Bliss.

This paper shows that every dollar spent on improving hurricane forecasts pays for itself many times over in reduced damages: www.nber.org/papers/w32548 Cutting funding for weather forecasting does not save money - it costs billions in addition to putting lives at risk

The odds of being attacked by a turkey are low, but never zero.

shamelessly nicking this from a friend, but if there were two types of c**t, JD Vance would be both of them.

It’s a good rule of thumb to not have any pathogen-spreading parties in the first place but really don’t do it for measles. Kids will die. globalnews.ca/news/1106288...

Tragedy.

🧵 Also, reverse brain drain. Sweetbabycheeses, trump is denser than a neutron star.

I wish more prominent scientists would speak out about what is happening under Trump. Yes, there is a real threat to one's livelihood of doing so. Being a scientist has been my lifelong dream, but there's honest work I can do outside of science, and I'd rather do that than serve the current regime.

words I never imagined writing in my lifetime..... General Sir Richard Shirreff, the former Nato deputy supreme allied commander in Europe, has told Times Radio: "I think we have to assume, after the events of the last 10 days, that we cannot in any way count on America as an ally"

Great news for money launderers!

People enter careers in public service because they believe there is value in using science to improve the lives of their fellow Americans. I’m grateful for their selfless work. We all should honor them, whether the current people in power do or not.

next up, is the Pope a Catholic and what do bears really do in woods

Frustrating to see science communicators posting videos about how a person with measles infects 18 others on average, without mentioning this is in a *fully unvaccinated* population. Measles can spread quickly in under vaccinated pockets of the population, but we don’t need to overstate risk. 1/

📸 No one follows more etiquette rules than the Royal Family—but notice how King Charles didn’t make any smart-ass or demeaning comments about Zelensky’s attire today. Why? Because respect isn’t about clothes—it’s about character. And that’s something money can’t buy.

Genius.

I don’t even know how this could be presented as being in service of anything other than hindering scientific progress.

Unbelievable. Donald Trump has been invited to a state visit to the UK. We should not be rolling out the red carpet to celebrate this man. Agree? Add your name to the petition today: you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/no...

There’s a headteacher’s, “I have spoken to both the boys involved in the incident,” vibe to this, isn’t there?

Also revealing was Vance’s answer, that he didn’t need to go to Ukraine because he had seen a lot of videos. Permanently online, like a slightly upscale Kemi Badenoch

to clarify: Trump is refusing to take sides over a war in which North Korea and Iran are backing one side and all of NATO has been backing the other

This is a thread of great beauty. Well said sir, well said.

Congratulations to Dr. Peter Hotez. I've had conversations with Hotez. Not only is he a brilliant man, but also a very kind human being. houston.innovationmap.com/peter-hotez-...
